It's called "Follow The Star". It's alright, it's not as good as Malaco's Family Christmas and Kirk Franklin & The Family Christmas though (in my opinion). I thought it would be The Potter's House Mass Choir ministering choral selections, instead it's special guests singers, like Dorinda Clark-Cole, Smokie Norful, The Blind Boys of Alabama, MaryMary, The group formerly known as Three Mo Tenors, Angie Winans, The Katinas, Donald Lawrence & Tri-City Singers, Beverly Crawford, Darwin Hobbs and a few other people singing arranged traditional christmas carols mainly.
The ones I thinkg that every one will like hands down are:
~ Smokie Norful's "Oh Holy Night", boy can that man sing, can't really describe it, you'll have to listen to it.
~ "Born In Bethlehem" by The Blind Boys of Alabama. It's actually "Children Go Where I Send Thee", and this track surprised me because I didn't think I would like it, but they take it back with that foot-stomping traditional quartet like gospel.
~ Another suprise was The Katinas. I'd never heard of them but their rendition of "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" is so beautiful.
~ "Silent Night" is sung in Spanish by a group with a Spanish name. T.D. Jakes plays the piano at the beginning, he sounds great, I didn't know he could play like that. The song then finishes with the Spanish group singing "Silent Night" in Spanish and it's pretty good, has that latin-jazz feel to it.
~ "3 Wise Men Medley" by The group formely known as Three Mo Tenors (that's not their name, I forgot what their going by now). They start out with "What Child Is This", then move to Steven Ford's "Hallelujah To The King" (a wonderful song...wished they could have sung more of that one), then they end it with "Angels We Have Heard On High". Their version of "Angels We Have Heard On High" I think is great, could be done as a choir song, the vamp of the song is the best part to me.
Now the other songs were just okay didn't really grab me, there's this narrative intrumental called, "From Our House To Yours", T.D. Jakes narrates it, I couldn't help but to think that He sounded so much like the late Barry White, and it doesn't help that it sound like "Me and Mrs. Jones" (I know Barry Whit didn't sing "Me and Mrs. Jones") but after you get into to it, you can tell that the background music is "Angels We Have Heard On High".
So that's my little synopsis of that album, all in all it's an okay good cd, I was expecting more, because the Potter House cds are always great. Another cd to check out is Shirley Caesar's new one titled, "Shirley Caesar & Friends", with guest like Kim Burrell, Dottie Peoples, Desmond Pringle to name a few. My favorite is the one she does with Kirk Franklin called "I'm Ready" it kind of sounds like his song "My Desire" from the Nu Nation Project.
