i am looking to build ma studio and i want a main board to gig on and to have in the studio i played both at some churchs i played at they both sound the same but i think the motif has a advantage in the studio. Can some one please help me i dont want to waste my money or this equipment.

U CAN'T GO WRONG WIT NEITHER ONE OF THEM. I WOULD GET BOTH IF I COULD.

Like 2tight said you can't go wrong with either one. Want I like about the fantom is the ease of laying down tracks and editing on board, I believe it's easier than the motif due the learning curve.

it's hard 2 lay down tracks on the motif. i struggle wit that.

Bigger learning curve on the Motif-with the advantage of being a complete DAW ,it and a computer gives you a complete pro studio.Better sounds than the roland;i.e.organ

I have an xs6 and it's sweet..Both are good but i would go with the xs..the learning curve isnt that bad

The fantom itself is a complete studio(ability to record vocal or other instrument directly into the fantom) also the ability to control individual effects per track and easy editing. Both are completely compatible with computers, but you must chose what's best for you.
I like the sounds and the ease of use.

The Motif XS Series are great for live appilcations. With the addition of the expanded soundbank and 8 sliders, color screen, plug ins the XS is awesome for live applications. The Motif XS and ES series looks a lot cooler on stage than a Fantom serires.
For a home studio I would go for the Fantom G. Mrandrew pretty much summed it up. The Fantom G series are complete when they come out of the box. Everything is there and you still have the option to upgrade. Plus the pads are a great addition for drum programming.
I am a huge fan of the Motifs and S Series from Yamaha. I would purchase a Motif before a Fantom, but for a home studio and live application I have to give it to Roland. :-\
