Article talks about a survey done where less college students/young people agreed with statement "I sometimes try to understand my friends better by imagining how things look from their perspective," and "I often have tender, concerned feelings for people less fortunate than me." Article/study argues that this is due to the following:

1. Generation being labeled as the most selfish, self-centered, narcissistic generation ever.
2. Role of Media
3. Social Networking (Facebook, Myspace, etc)
4. Life being about personal success and everything at a high-pace.

Not suprising to me at all.

I don't see very many people in the older generations that are all that empathetic either. They're certainly not far off (or off at all) from college kids.
