I just got a bass guitar from my father and it is WAY out of tune. :?: I need to know the open strings and get the thing workin again!

If you stand the bass up and look at it from the front, the notes, from left to right will be:
E, A, D, G

Do yourself a big favor and invest a few bucks in having your bass set up by a good technician. Chances are the strings need to be replaced, neck set and entonation set. The last is making certain all the notes at each fret are in tune. On most basses this isn't hard, but get someone to show you how to do it. Few things discourage a new or old bassist like a bass which plays pourly. Be blessed.

It's not an old guitar. My dad never used it so I took it off his hands. Thanks for your help guys

A chromatic tuner will ease your worries when it comes to keeping it in tune. You can get one for about $20.
