Title: Leslie Noise

During service today, I noticed the leslie (22R) was not as low as it normally was. In addition, the leslies started making a scratching noise. After about two hours into service, as we finished alter service and the organ played fine. What might this be? I am not sure what to do with the leslie, I plan to call my tech, but thought I would ask if anyone knew what might be wrong. Thanks!

The noise is coming from the bottom it sounded like. The organ was used when we purchased and the tech came out and serviced it and it needed a lot of oil when he came, which was in January. I have a silly question, but how do I oil it? I saw him put oil in various spots, but I also see area where it says on the leslie, put oil here. I don't won't to mess up anything. Thanks for any info and sorry if that question is silly.

I BE HEARING DA RADIO COMING THROUGH MY LESLIE. THAT IS SO WEIRD. WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THAT

WOW! Never heard the radio, but I will keep a ear out for that. I have heard the radio system that truckers use come through our church PA system. We had one guy stop by our church on night, because he said he could hear use having church and the word of God in his truck and he wanted to stop by.

Yo,Knox-what kind of noise? The lower rotor makes a LOT of clunking just because of it's size;if you have it miked or close to your ear-that might be the issue.For 2;sometimes a bad ground;in the house or a bad cap in the Leslie can do that.Try swapping A/c cables/outlets.Maybe see ifRadio Shack can help ya out

Hey DocJohn. It made like a scrapping sound. I think it is the lower rotor, since it came from the bottom of the Leslie. I spoke with my tech guy and he said just play over the it (seeing how the noise is not a constant noise and too loud). Not sure what is wrong with the Leslie. It is old, so I just want to take care of it. Plus some work needs to be done to the organ too.

Tube driven amps do pick up radio waves but usually it is very faint.

As for the noise you are describing, you would need to find out whether the noise is coming from the speakers or if it is a mechanical noise. Best way to determine this is to unplug the Leslie motors. Your 22R will have 2 brown plugs connected to the amp. Go from there and see what you can find out.

Hi! Actually, the Leslie blew a fuse about a month ago, I think. When I contacted my tech guy, he said the fuse might have blown because the tubes were getting too hot. When I looked back over the service record, we notice he never changed the tubes out of the organ or leslie when we bought it used in January (The organ had been sitting in the back of a store for about two years). The bass doesn't go all the way out, it just gets low and comes back in. Since I changed the fuse, the noise has stopped. Once you get the bass working, the organ sound wonderful. I wonder what the problem could be with the bass. My tech said something about Alto (might have mispelled) tubes? I have no idea what those are and if I can change them myself.

did he say " a lot" as in units produced at the same time?  As in a bad batch of xxxxxxx product;lot number xyz;produced @plant x from here to there/

You can change the tubes out yourself;get your amp model #######;should be 5-6 tubes;#6550 (pair) power tubes; # 12 AU(1-2) ,and OC3 -for the relay.

Make sure the amp is cool;replace tubes 1x1 ;GENTLY remove+ replace!!! power it up + play-KEEP the old ones for a spare!!!  Look for NOS-  new;old stock.

Thanks doc. I will see if I can do it. I had trouble trying to put a tube in the tone cabinet I have, so I'm not very familiar with the tubes and all. Thanks again man!

If it's tubes, it's more than likely the 6550's (the 2 big tubes in front of the transformers). If a tube is over-conducting (or overheating as you put it) the tube has either gone bad or there is a problem with an electronic component. Tubes do get very hot and will glow but if a tube starts to over-conduct, the plates will start to glow bright cherry red. You can definitely damage components by continuing to operate the Leslie under these conditions.

Okay, thanks RMS2003. I think I should stop playing it then, cause I sure don't want to damage anything. I have looked at the tubes and they seem to glow an orange color. I am not sure about the tubes getting hot and blowing the fuse, that is just what my tech said. He also told me to shut the organ off during service when i am not playing it or it might blow the fuse again. Well, I have not been turning it off and it is working fine. The only problem is that the bass fades in and out a lot. But if I get it going good enough, the bass will play fine. I don't have any troubles with the high keys (when I'm playing it) is is the bass notes that fade in and out. Even the pedals do the same. I am confused about the whole thing. Another guy played the organ at our church and was confused too, but thought it might be the tubes. Thanks for all your advice!

Check All your Tubes Doc!! More than likely if its a Minor issue thats what it is. If its not the Tubes call your Tech. I just had the very same problem a few months back and the Tubes in my 122 needed to be changed. After that the B3 was screamin on my command ONLY once again ;D ;D

LOL! Thanks Bruh. I am going to have to call my tech out, I'm not sure what to look for in the tubes. They seem to be lit up and I'm not sure how to put them in correctly. But I have to get it fix soon, cause we got something upcoming conferences and servies at the church. Thanks again!
