I know music theory can be a confusing subject especially for improvising musicians. And it seems that you are confusing on a piano jazz, right? Well, the book of Mark Levine's Jazz Piano is the best for you. This book clears that confusion and is perhaps the most practical book on the subject I have ever seen.

I have both books and I like the Jazz theory better because it goes more details of what you are playing and you will understand the chords and reharms better, both goes over different chords, progressions, and voicing, but in the jazz piano if you are not familiar with basic jazz songs it may be a little hard, because you dont know how to play it, or how it suppose to sounds, and how to use it.

Hope this help

Jazz Piano is the better book for a beginner in my humble opinion.
