Title: What Should I Do?
Post by: funkStrat_97 on July 29, 2010, 12:01:09 PM
I am the owner/moderator of a Yahoogroup

(http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/christianmusicianfellowship/ (http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/christianmusicianfellowship/))

and a couple of days ago, I received a request from someone wanting to join the group.  The issue, though, is that the person is of the Islamic faith and I question their motive for wanting to join a group that clearly identifies itself as Christian.  So what should I do?  I'm somewhat inclined to approve the request, but at the same time, I don't want the form to become venue for religious debates (of course, I could delete the member's account if they don't abide by the forum rules).

IMO... I would let him join... You cant prejudge a person's motives based on their religion choice... He may have something to input or he may learn something... You never know...

If he starts up some mess... give him a warning... If he doesnt heed the warning then a delete is in order...

I dont always want to talk to "Christians" about life and certain subjects... My dad is Muslim and we have some of the BEST conversations when it comes to people, life and worship... BTJM

I'd allow the membership but monitor their actions.

I'd allow the membership and treat him like you treat everyone else.

Here's an update: I was a bit leery of the motivation behind the membership request because, it contained statements along the lines of Christianity and Islam being very similar religions and also had a link to web-site (which I have not looked at yet).  Most people, when they request to join, make some statement about being involved in the ministry of Christian music in some way.  Nevertheless, I may still allow this person to join, but he has yet to respond to a rather basic question that I asked: are you a musician?  If he doesn't reply, I wont approve him and the request will expire after 14 days.  I guess we shall see what becomes of it.
