I was sure there was a topic on this but I can't find it. Do you believe in one or the other or both? I'm wrestling with this right now. I'm starting to believe some things happen by chance but not sure.

no such thing as chance
Proverbs 16:33 (NIV)
The lot is cast into the lap,
but its every decision is from the LORD.

I'm with Phbrown on this one. I don't believe in chance. In fact, I'm an extremist when it comes to this subject. I believe even the littlest of things are planned, ordained, or allowed by God. If I get a run in my pantyhose, or miss an important phone call, get pulled over by a police officer, oversleep, lose a $20 bill, can't find that scripture I'm looking for, can't remember who I was about to call... it's all for a reason.
By the way, that line of thinking really helped me to change my mind about what stresses me out and what doesn't. I believe everything happens for a reason, and looking at it that way means that 95% of what used to bother me, now doesn't - because I know it's for purpose.

I agree with the above poster.

I don't believe n chance at all, although it does look like certain events are "random".

I agree with all the replies.

I've been thinking about this lately more so along the lines of people you meet for one. I met someone a few years back and just weird things happened since then. I don't understand why I met this person. If it was by chance the circumstances of events or just divine appointment. If divine appointment why?

I just had a conversation on this subject last week with someone. Sometimes, you know right away why you met a person. Sometimes, you won't know until days, weeks, months, or even years later. Sometimes, you never find out at all... but that doesn't change the fact that nothing "just happens." It's all planned.
Someone wrote a good poem - and because it was "anonymous", there have been many variations of it published which weren't as good as the original. I'm going to see if I can find it and post it for you.

Only Time will tell
