Very good article. Was checking myself as I read to see if I fall in one. :)

Hmmm....thought this would be more about Bad Doctrine than "Diva" leaders....though they do tend to go hand-in-hand. BTW, there are male equivalents for these types, too...

A popular female evangelist arrived at an airport and was escorted to the baggage claim area. After she retrieved her luggage she was taken to the passenger pickup lounge where she met her hosts from a local church, who planned to take her in a comfortable van to a nearby hotel so she could rest before speaking at an evening service.
The members of the welcoming team were not prepared for this woman's icy response to their greeting. When they opened the door to the van, she told them bluntly: "I will not ride in that." Then she stormed back into the airport with her entourage. After making inquiries, one of the church staff was informed by the woman's assistant that Her Highness must be transported in a certain type of vehicle.
The stated choices were a Bentley, a Mercedes-Benz or a Lincoln Town Car! Nevermind that Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. This regal woman of God insisted on arriving in luxury.
This right here.........if I was the one picking her up and/or in charge of her coming to and event, she would have gotten left at the airport and told that she can go back home. And when people asked why she did not speak at the event, I would have told the ENTIRE truth. If they had an issue with this person not appearing after the explanation, they can go home too. Because a certain person delivering the word does not make it that much more valid than a "no-name" messenger.

Can someone please forward this article anonymously to my MOM

I have probably unknowingly witnessed many of these divas in the past. I'll probably pay more attention going forward. Up until this point, I'd be moreso focusing on the meat of what is being delivered.
What would you say are the pros and cons of the emotion/passion of female church leaders? I realize that it's prevalent in male leaders as well but is it overlooked in men and expected or accepted in women?

I'd be glad to. Seriously. :-\
I just e-mailed it to about 30 people that I know who are either in leadership or work with women in leadership. It wasn't sent as a throw-off to people I thought "needed" to see it so they can check themselves. It was just a "you might find this interesting" thing. I'd be glad to forward it to your MOM in the same vein. She'll probably just take it as random junk mail from someone who got her e-mail address off of another e-mail forward.

I checked myself too. Let's say I have an area or two to work on... lol. :-[ :D :D
No seriously, I didn't fit any of those profiles, thank God. BUT, there were a couple of characteristics mentioned that I saw myself in and was like :-[ :(... gotta fix that.

You must've stopped at #1. Only the first one was about a "diva" leader. The others were about 5 other types of leaders to avoid.

I present a different perspective on this, though I don't disagree with the sentiment behind yours.
First of all, this should've been ironed out in advance. When a church is booking a speaker to come to their church, SOMEONE (administrator, pastor, secretary, associate minister, etc.) is responsible for communicating with the speaker and/or his representative. We have a form that I send out to all guests asking them what their needs, preferences, and requirements are as it relates to travel, ground transportation, hotel accommodations, meals, and honoraria. If they don't send the form back, I will e-mail and call until I get answers. I at least like to know what they want to eat/drink and if they have any other must-have requirements.
So I would've known in advance that this speaker expected to be picked up in a specific car. Chances are, this speaker wouldn't be booked at my church because my pastor doesn't play that and neither do I. But let's just say s/he did get booked...
I would first pull out her accommodation form to see if she specified that requirement. If she did specify it, it is our responsibility to accommodate, since we knew in advance and booked her anyway.
If she didn't specify it, I would show her the form, explaining that she didn't make her wishes known. At that point, I would call the Pastor to tell him what my plan is and get an "okay" from him. With his approval, I would then let the speaker know that we are unable to accommodate her on such short notice and if she'd still like a ride to the hotel, I'd be glad to take her in the van. If not, I would tell her I understand, ask her if she would like me to wait while she tries to arrange for other transportation on her own, and if she declines, I'd simply wish her a safe journey back home. On the inside, I'd be hoping she declines because I wouldn't want to receive ANY KIND OF ministry from a person like that. But, as the administrator, driver, program coordinator, adjutant, or whatever, I'm not in charge and it's not my call to make.

This article is great. I have a couple of people I want to share this with. As you said, to help check behavior before it starts.

i've seen a few of these.
with the first one, its like they begin to believe their own hype.
Someone must carry her Bible, her water bottle, her purse and her cell phone.

This right here! I have a short fuse anyway so this is how i would react. THis is sickening!

I still wanna know why someone who is supposed to be coming to share the word of God and bring souls to Christ can't do it unless she's transported in a Bentley, a Mercedes-Benz, or a Lincoln Town Car. Does that make her message more powerful?
Hmmmmmm, I wonder if she also just happens to carry a $5000 pen.

I just happend to be thinking that sounds like a person that would be anti- bic pens. ;D ;D

Sounds like a good explanation of Jezebel. :)

I think this is a good read. I have seen all of the traits exhibited by men & women. That person who could only ride in a bently etc would have had her behind in the back of a cab on the way to the hotel & would not have been at my church unless she was coming to get on the altar to get another dose of the Holy Ghost. We really have to stop allowing this foolish type of behavior to go on in the church!
