Title: Am I the only one that thinks the Axe Detailer commercial is....
Post by: nessalynn77 on September 07, 2010, 10:50:47 PM
WAY OVER THE TOP????  I have never heard such blatant sexual innuendo in a commercial.

Yes that commercial talking about balls was absolutely vulgar. I am rarely taken back by something on tv, but when I saw it I had to check my program guide to see what channel I was watching.

Okay, I'm glad the whole world hasn't gone crazy.  I was thinking I was getting old or something.  I really wish I knew who to write to tell them what I think of that foolishness... SMH...  I mean it comes on during family shows... how stupid is that?

Just do a youtube search for "Axe Detailer Cleans Your Balls"

Can't believe I'm saying this but, It's too suggestive to post on here IMO. Really not sure how this commercial made it on the air.

Cheeky!

;D

The last two parts were the funniest!

This was a pretty tame commercial compared to some I've seen in Korea and Japan! LOL

I didn't laugh (but that's just because that's not my kind of humor), but I do LOVVVE Jamie Pressley. She's one of my faves. She rocked this commercial.

I do think it's a bit much for family television. However, I thought it was creative and appropriate for the targeted audience... just should've been on a different channel and/or aired after bedtime.

These advertising agencies need to go back to the clean, wholesome commercials like my all-time fave:

Fruit Of The Loom - You Can't Overlove Your Underwear (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9e3KdGV5Cbg#)

False advertising - I have the Axe Detailer. It should be called the Axe Grater.  >:(

I only use it to clean the shower now...it's pretty good at loosening grime and soap scum.

She may like the smell (I know a few women who use men's shower gels) of their product, which exposed her to this particular product.  Lots of women use pumice stones and loofahs and other exfoliating sponges and things to wash with... maybe that's why she wants it. Keeps the skin smooth. *shrug*

There is also an orbit gum commercial that's been out for a while where the characters are using euphemisms for some REALLY vulgar things

I sent them an email and they wrote me back.  Some mumbo jumbo about their market research and target audience of males 17 - 24... yadda yadda....

I appreciate the response, and from the "form letter" style of it, I'm assuming they have heard a lot of responses to this particular commercial.

Possibly. Or, it could be standard procedure for companies to prepare a form letter for possible complaints.

And again, even if it tested through the roof for that particular age group (and, of course, why wouldn't it ::)) they still don't need to put it on during Family programming.  :-\

On a related note, I'd like to congratulate Nessa on her giving the AXE company more attention.  :-\

Lol the commercial isn't bad it just has bad taste and timing...like if you're gonna do that then DON'T PUT IT ON DURING FAMILY STUFF....also run it on channels that your target age range would most likely watch (Spike, MTV, ESPN, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network)....But I can not tell a lie...being a recent college grad...that commercial made me spit out my food it was so funny...

I think the Axe commercial is funny, but should only be played at appropriate times.  One series that I do find offensive are the Tech and Talk commercials.  I have three Indian employees.  Two of them are livid about these commercials.  The third just dismisses them as trash.

They seem to get more offensive with each episode.

lol, I wondered if Indians would find that offensive. If you go to a cell phone store in NY (or clothing store or corner store) there is a 70% +/-  that the person will Indian, Pakastani or some other sort of middle eastern or South Asian. If you call a Tech support line it seems like 99% percent of them will be in India and have a thick accent. So I guess thats what they were hinting at for the commercial

There was also another commercial with them in it working in a clothing store, but I couldnt find.

  • Overly stereotyped Indian accent
  • The little comment about "my cousin's over-milked cow"
  • The exaggerated belly dancers

It would be like having countrified black folks sitting there talking about watermelon and fried chicken and then breakin' out into a huck-a-buck.

As for the accents, it sounded like a normal indian accent, nothing stereotypical imo.

I was thinking the same thing - especially about the accents. I missed the "milk" comment; it probably went over my head. And I didn't find the belly dancers offensive, either.

OAN, my office (is in a building that) has 20-something floors. The 3rd floor houses the IT department (about 100 ppl). With the exception of about 10 people - mostly Black - that entire floor is Indian.  There are two Indians on my floor, and both of them work in one of our software groups. If you call the IT department, you are routed to a queue which is staffed by IT employees all across the country. No matter what office you get, 9x out of 10, you're gonna get an Indian. Any time you see an Indian on the elevator, you can pretty much bet your lunch he's gonna push "3" because in my company, almost ALL the Indians work in IT.

*shrug*

I'm willing to bet that's pretty much the same experience most who work in Corp America have.

Could be that I'm more sensitive to this stuff because I interact with people from India on a daily basis.  Between the three of them, they come from two completely different parts of India and have differences in accent, diet, and religion.  But they were all clearly offended by the stereotypes.

Yeah, My company's IT dept is about 50% indian, but they are in another state (and they recently outsourced a few jobs to Bangalore India.) When I call the Indian People in the US I can understand most of what they say (and they sound like the people in the commercial), but when I call the people in india I dont understand nuthin they say, there's a huge language barrier. Now if the people in the commercial sounded like them, then I'd say that they were stereotyping.

I guess its weird because we just about never see Indian people on TV and in Movies

On the flip side, The Pastor I play for is Indian, born in NY, he talks like a white guy, lol. I wonder if he'd be offended.

I knew that no I didn't yep......just joking'.....heh heh

This commercial is till funny to me. I see it all the time on VH1 and MTV. They even got a version where a guy at the end asks, "What about my ball sack?" He's holding a sack full of soccer balls. Hilarious!
That's the original one I saw... UGH.

A blast from the past. I used to love when we did stuff like that.  :D :D :D

I'm guaranteed to pull this out once a year. just need a reason.

Apparently I always provide a reason, LOL!  I was scared it was going to come out a couple of weeks ago in another thread, can't remember which one.
