So I am driving in my car on Sunday going to church in South Philly, I was coming around City Hall headed down broad street, and the light turned yellow, by the time I got in the crosswalk, the light turned red and FLASH! FLASH! FLASH! FLASH! FLASH! I had had my picture taken, so now I have a $100 Red Light Violation!
I thought you actually had to RUN the light, the RED light... not a YELLOW one >:(
I just had to vent. If you have ever driven in Phila, you know good and well people run the stop signs as well as the lights! I just got my insurance down to $114 a month, full coverage. This from having to pay $465 a month while I lived in Philly. I have NEVER had a moving violation! Ugh...
Have any of you ever been caught by the cameras? And dang, do I have to go to court for it? :D someone help a sista out!
-
They've had em here for about a year. I have not been caught, I know where most of them are, so I'm extra careful at those intersections. There are also signs that warn you of the cameras.
I also dont think that they affect your insurance or your license.

Yellow really means to slow down and stop for the impending red light not speed up so you don't get caught at the red light. :-\ :D
Been busted before in B-more. It sucks. And no, you don't have to go to court. Just pay it through the mail or online and you're good.
And lastly, slow down. *kanyeshrug*

Did they get your good side? Was your hair done? Did you smile?
-
I got caught a couple of times in Germany...lol. However, if the picture isn't clear...you can deny that you were the driver.

I was dressed for church... LOL, and YES my hair was bangin!

Ooh you sound like my mama... I wasnt going fast at all. LOL. I mean, not REALLY fast... :D

Cordney, you mean you can lie?
That yellow thing is rough for me. In NY and in my mind, yellow means approach with caution because the light is about to turn red and depending on your proximity to the light and speed, you may need to stop.
In many other states, yellow means stop. Since police officers have discretion and in Atlanta, they tend to come from other states, you never know whether an officer is gonna get you because he believes in stopping on the yellow. It's just crazy. And unjust.
And that's my yellow light rant. Now IRT red lights, they mean stop. If you get a ticket for running a red, and you're guilty, I have no compassion (unless there were extenuating circumstances like a woman in labor or something). Slow down before you kill somebody.

I feel where you are coming from. I mean, in Philly, the yellow is the same way... It does NOT mean stop. I wasnt going fast at all, I got to the crosswalk and THEN it turned red, I thought that I could go through, since I couldnt stop safely... But I guess NOT :-\ This is my firt moving violation. I am not sure how I feel about that yet. I been driving for 10 years... that is wack!

In CA you can pay the fine and go to traffic school to get the violation erased from your record; that way your insurance won't go up. Don't know how it is in other states, but usually it is limited to minor violations, not DUI, and can be only used something like once every 18 months.
You can even take online traffic school...

They just laid off like 40 of them, now they probably really don't care. They said that people are burglarizing homes more, because they know the cops are too short-handed to respond... I was out there last weekend and a friend was talking about somebody's rental property that was being repeatedly burglarized, when she complained to the cops they basically told her, "Do what you gotta do.." LOL, I'm like what does that mean? Shoot them?

It amazes me that the heavily populated cities are short on cops, and the the more quaint and less populated areas are surplus. That statement leads to another thread topic all together... But its crazy though, the burglary thing is funny... But to answer your last question... YES, shoot them. You wont go to jail, cause they are shot staffed. LOL.

Na'll! ;D

Where that thread with the guy wearing the animal head speeding? :D
-
never been caught
-
They have them all over Delaware...just installed, like, 13 more at various intersections.
No, I've never been busted, but my wife has once. :o
I have to say that we're both more cautious when approaching an intersection because of it. Not that that is a bad thing...

Lol did u smile. That's funny. Yeah its dumb to have em down Center City cuz traffic is so heavy and the lights are so close. Man that aint nuttin but a money-makin scheme. I can understand on the boulevard but down JFK? I remember seeing a funeral procession going through one. Dad always said you gon have bills til you die, then when you die you still have bills but you just not payin em :-)

EXACTLY! You know how you get off of 676 at Hahnemann Hospital and take 15th street to Broad? That curve around City Hall? Thats where it got me. I was shocked cause in Center City all thw way through South Philly there is a light on EVERY corner >:( and a lot of times you have to speed up to keep from getting ran over by a taxi cab or even a Septa bus!
I just hate that Philly isnt the type of place where you can really fight it, cause I would not mind being on Parking Wars tellin my side of the story :D
My bestie got caught on the Boulevard, and when it took her picture, it was like a Top Model photo shoot. I guess it was bad cause it was dark outside, so you could see that flash even if you was in Bucks County :D
Anyway, they have them in Virginia too, but I have yet to get caught by one, since the people here drive so stupidly, that I always end up missing the light anyway, so running a light would be more intentional, and that would be stupid on my part.
Anyway, another question for those who know... Are those signs on the interstate that say "SPEED ENFORCED BY AIRCRAFT" telling the truth, or is that just to get you to slow down ?/? I aintnever seen no airplane up there. And I be lookin.

Yeah aint even worth trippin over cuz the pics are clear as day, u get mad but then youre kinda impressed at the same time lol. But anyway i think that sign is meant to scare you. Ive never seen no aircraft either. I mean is it that serious tho? For high speed chases then yeah but doing 80 on I95, nah
