Title: Racial Profiling
Post by: B_X on September 14, 2010, 01:04:08 PM
My mom and brother live in the Central Valley in California. I have been there numerous times, and noticed that the police there are so standoffish and confrontational.

So last night, my mom calls me, and she said that my brother was pulled over last noght for expired tags. His tags say 09/10. This confused me. This was a Monday night and his tags had expired Sunday, and he had forgotten to renew. Physically looking at his car though, his tags are not expired. Why would the cop pull him over? He wasn't speeding, he wasn't blasting music and he didnt make any illegal turns or actions on the road.

The cop pulls him and then 3 other cars pull up. Light shinning on him, and then after all of the harrassment, they let him go. No warning, no more mention of the tags. Just 45 minutes of harrassment. My brother works for the state of california, he graduated from Nursing School, but he works for CalTrain. He has never even been in a fight before. He doesn't have a record and he is scared of spiders... All he was doing was dropping his girlfriend off and they harassed him.

Would you think this was profiling or what? I mean, my mom said that in the 5 years she has lived there she has been pulled over 5 times. I know it happens everywhere... but my goodness.

I don't know if it's profiling, but I know that if they see a tag that expires this month, they will probably run it to see if it's good (especially on a slow night, lol).  I've had that happen to me before.  I told them I was going to get my new tag that weekend, and they let me go.  All of the hassle after the fact?  Yeah, there's a good chance that had to do with the color of his skin...

Yeah, he came home and my mom said he burst into tears... I felt bad for him, cause they mess with him all the time. He is really one of the good ones. But they dont see that :-\

I remember back in the 80s, they started selling bumper stickers that said, "I know I look Black, but it's just a tan. Please don't pull me over."  :D :D

Anyway, it could be profiling, but I always have to pause when giving opinions based on one side of the story. From what you shared, it probably was profiling.

But I gotta tell you, that happens just about everywhere. Especially with black men. And this is reason #237 it kills me to hear people say racism doesn't exist in 2010. I was in traffic court all morning, and I left there with such a sense of rage that I haven't been able to stop crying and praying. I'm so angry. (Not over my own ticket, they just reset it again for another day). But the stark differences between the way the black and hispanics were treated in comparison to the whites. Then, the uneducated and seemingly lower-class or working-class were treated differently from those who appeared professional and articulate. It was just really unbelievably unjust and upsetting.

What can you do about it? *throws up hands*

Would you think this was profiling or what?

hard to say especially if they recently received a report that a Black male between the height of 5'-5" and 6'-5" about 160lbs to 240lbs (he had on baggy clothes) may have been involved in a theft.

So the cops just start pulling anyone for anything and if they match the description they start "talking" to them.

Its sad, I know (especially since that description is all to common).

In the end I agree it was profiling. However I'm guilty of profiling people all the time. I live in a predominately black neighborhood and whenever I see anyone who doesn't fit that description hanging around. I'm like what are they doing here? They are up to no good.
Luke 6:42

Has anyone filed a report?

I know here in Kansas you can get actual summaries of investigations that happen for when someone believes they have been harrased by the police. Every now and then (its rare) the investigation says the person was profiled/harassed by the police.

That's a very good point. I think it's a good idea to file the report just so that they have it on record. You never know how many other people will file (or have filed) similar reports, or how they might be used in the future.

Sit back I have a story to tell.
 ;D
I once got pulled over on I-20 from Shreveport back to Grambling. I had went to buy some strings and was on the way back. I wasn't speeding (mainly because i had someone in the car with me). Passed by a LA state trooper sitting in the median not thinking about it. My friend turns around and tells me I wonder who he's after. So I look in my rear view and this fool is right on my rear bumper at highway speeds. So he follows me at 69.95mph for around 2 mins and then puts his lights on.

Roll the window down.

Cop- Can the driver step out of the car please?

* Got out of car being sure not to make threatening jestures as I didn't want to get shot on the side of the interstate.

Cop- How you doing?

Me- Umm ...... fine?

Cop- You have your license on you

-Me Yes

*Goes in car to get license being sure not to make and sudden movements as once again I don't want to get shot on the side of the interstate.

*Hand officer the license

*Officer takes license and looks at it as if he were trying break the Davinci Code

*Officer tries to make small talk and eventually says something to the effect of I pulled you over for tint. My car at the time had 20% on the side glass and none on the rear. Also I knew very well he couldn't ticket me for a LA tint law when my vehicle, tags, registration and license are from OK.

Officer - Where are you headed

Me- I'm headed back to Ruston. I'm coming back from shreveport buying some guitar strings.

Officer - You play in a band

Me- Well I play at church

Officer- Church is a good place to be.

Me (Umm Okay officer pleasant)

Officer- Why are you acting so nervous

Me- I'm just not used to being pulled over (also I don't want to get shot on the side of the interstate sir)

Officer- Well you acting nervous makes me think your hiding something. You acting nervous makes me nervous okay.

Subconsciously- With all do respect you are the one with the badge and a gat within milliseconds of your reach.

Officer- You have any guns are weapons on you. Any knifes or anything sharp that can cut me.

Me - No

Officer- Set over this way and spread your legs.

Subconscience- Okay how exactly did we end up here getting patted down on the side of the interstate.

Officer- You have any drugs, weapons or contraband in the vehicle.

Me- No

Officer- You don't have anything at all you wouldn't want me finding if I search the vehicle.

Me- No

Officer- Are you a student

Me- Yes I go to Grambling

Officer- Where's you parking permit

Me- Right there - Pointing to the parking permit swinging from my dog-on rear view mirror and the "Grambling Tigers" License plate frame that was staring him in the face.

Officer- Stay right here, I'm going to go talk to your passenger.

*Officer goes and talks to my friend I guess to confirm the story and comes back

Officer- Do you have any outstanding warrants

Me- No

Officer- Have you ever been incarcerated

Me- No

Officer- Do you have a criminal record

Me- No

Officer- Have you ever been to court for anything

Me- No

*Officer stand still holding license pondering. By this time a second LA state trooper had pulled over and backed his car in front of mine.

Officer- Well I tell you what, I'm going to run your license and if everything comes back clean I will let you go.

Me- Ok

Officer- Yeah I need to run a license number M 0 ..... a bunch of cop lingo

.............. Jepordy theme music plays....................

*About 15min after no response from the radio

Officer- Well I'm going to go ahead and let you go and be careful pulling back into traffic

Me- Ok thanks (KICK ROCKS)  >:( >:( >:(

Hard to say if that was profiling or not.  In Michigan, the tags expire on the first day of the month on the tag.  Makes it easier for the police to know who they CAN pull over.  Found that out when the Mrs. got pulled over for expired tags.

Three quick profiling stories:

1986: One of my best friends and I are crossing the border into Canada.  He's 6'1", former Howard U football player, wearing dark shades, a black leather jacket, black racing gloves, driving a black Buick Grand National. I'm right behind him in the Customs line driving a black Buick Skyhawk and dressed in a shirt and tie.  I've made this crossing hundreds of times.  This is Matt's first time.  Who gets pulled over?  Me.

1990 something: My wife and I are driving our Corvette from our Ann Arbor area home to downtown Detroit.  Get onto I-94. Before we even make it to the next exit, we get pulled over for "speeding".  Officer said he clocked me doing 90 in a 55.  I explained to him that I had just gotten on at the exit less than a quart mile behind us.  Even in a Vette I wasn't hitting 90 that fast.  A dark colored SUV with blacked out windows pulled over in front of me.  Two other officers and a police dog got out, walked around the perimeter of my car and then the original officer said "okay, you can go".  Now what was that all about?

2007: Driving through Bloomfield Hills in a Mercedes from our competitive vehicle fleet.  I'm on the phone.  Bluetooth, so nothing up to my ear.  Flashing lights behind me!  I had cruise control set to the speed limit, I always wear my seat belt.  Whazzup with this crap?!?  I tell the person I'm talking to to listen in so they can hear how I'm being profiled.  Cop walks up, I'm ready to claim profiling.  Cop says "You really oughta turn your lights on". D-oh!

That's funny how he says you being nervous makes me nervous as if he couldn't blow ur head off for blinking too fast. Especially these trigger-happy county boys up here in PA. Racism and profiling will never die. Me and my older brother were in a K-Mart and as we were leaving from the checkout this white lady runs outside because she misplaced her wallet but thought we stole it. She all screamin and runnin after us like "I want ur license plate numbers" and what not. As if we were the only ones coming out of a K-Mart. Oh wait nvm, we were the only young black boys comin out.

Wow y'all, this is deep. And Rue, I feel you on the fact that folks say that racism doesnt exist... Cause it does. The absolute worse case I encountered was when I lived in Philly, I used to work in King of Prussia.

One rainy day I was driving to work, had just got off 76, I was coming to the arrow, it was red, then it turned green. It was pouring down rain, an there was a little more traffic than I expected to see on a Sunday morning. There was a car in front of me and they were in the left turning lane also. I was a car length behind them, and then the driver decides to make a RIGHT to get onto the freeway. Long story short, I hit them.

I got out of the car, praising God that it wasnt all that bad. Sure I messed up my car, and theirs, but we were all alive. The lady who was driving was white, she immediately asked if I was okay. Her husband then said to me "what the &^%$$^* were you thinking?!?!" I immediately apologized, and then mentioned how she started to make an illegal turn in the intersection. While she admitted it, then he told her ti shut up and not to talk to me.

This dude called 9-1-1 and told the operator that some black woman who doesnt belong in that part of town ran into them when the light was RED. That was a lie. Then he mentioned how they need to send a cop ASAP cause this BLACK woman looks suspect and that I would try to leave. Now he is saying this AFTER I had already handed my Geico card and license and everything to the wife. I had nothing to hide.

Then the unthinkable >:( He called his daughter who was having a wedding dinner and said that he was going to be late cause a N-word ran into them... and I almost lost it. The cop who was white came, and the dude thought he had an ali, and really, he almost got himself arrested...

That still bothers me to this day. Not as extreme as most cases, but it was bad enough to me.

I dont think I've ever been a victim. All 6 or 7 times I've been pulled over I deserved it, but most times I got off with a warning. ;D

Took a pic last time I got pulled over. :D

One of my friends told me to wash my car after  I get pulled over because the cops touch your car when they pull you over just in case something happens, that way if something happens to them after you part ways, then they cant come back to you and say the cops prints were on your car. I dont know how true that is, but it was interesting nonetheless.

I was pulled over by an officer. He said my registration sticker was expired, but I told him I had a new sticker installed that day. He looked, saw the sticker was current, and apologized. He told me he'd just put the plate # in and it came up expired and that the system had probably not yet updated itself since I'd gotten the sticker that same day. It probably helped that he was a big city cop (they tend to be better than your country yokel cops), that he was a brother, that I followed the script given to me by my attorney sister to use if I ever got pulled over ("yes officer", "no officer", "no, I don't why you pulled me over", "let me get my registration for you from my glove box", etc...), and that I was dressed up nice and in a car that didn't look ragged or unkempt.

I don't know how much good it would do, but I would file a complaint against the police officer for pulling your bro over without probable cause if the tags are good. Did he get the officer's name, badge #, or car # by chance?

My buddy Steve used to get pulled over all the time when he lived in South Central L.A.
He's a well-educated black brother who likes to drive nice musclecars (he's owned several Z28 and SS Camaros as well as a few older Road Runners and more) and apparently that makes him a prime target for the bad cops with nothing better to do than to mess with him. Ironically, he does not speed nor drive like an idiot, so that's not been the cause for him getting pulled over.
He's told me that the first question they usually ask him is "How can you afford a nice car like this?"  >:(  ::)

Oh! I just got pulled over 20 minutes ago....well actually we were already pulled over in front of my Uncle's house, I was dropping him off and all of a sudden an undercover car lit us up, saying that that they were looking for Robbers (there were other police cars around the neighborhood looking for someone, so I guess they were just doing their job ) He didnt say anything about my expired license so I cant complain...

Likewise, every time I was pulled over, it was for cause. The treatment I received afterward was often unmerited and unjustifiable.

The Lord really has to help me with areas like this because just thinking about it sends me into such a deep rage. I just hate injustice. Hate it. Passionately.

While we're telling stories...

When I was moving to DC, my MIL, SIL, and BIL and my two godsons came over to help me pack and clean. When they were leaving, my BIL took all the trash out to the dumpster, which is by the front gate. I thanked them, kissed/hugged everybody goodbye, and before I could even sit down real good, my phone was ringing. My SIL told me I needed to come by the gate right away and that somebody was calling the police on them. I walked there, and my MIL was extremely upset and worried. I asked what was going on and she pointed over at the guy standing in the doorway of his condo on his cordless phone. She told me that he just came out the door and started yelling at them as they were putting trash in the dumpster asking if they lived in the sub and saying he was calling the police. My SIL (who is incredibly meek and gentle) tried to explain to him that they were taking MY trash, but he started yelling louder so MIL told her to call me.

I'm not good with distance, but I guess the gate is about 250 ft?? from his door. I didn't want to yell, so I walked maybe 10 ft closer and said "what's going on, sir, what's the problem?" He started ranting about how he pays the trash bill every month and he's not going to sit by and allow people who don't live here to come and put their trash in our dumpster. So I explained to him that I live there and they were carrying out MY trash, and gave him my unit number, name, etc. Meanwhile, he was still on the phone with the police.

I told my family to go ahead home and not to worry about it, but MIL was worried because he had taken down their plate number. And plus, old people are just worriers anyway. LOL. So, at that point, I was already annoyed because I don't like stupidity, I don't like my family being harassed, and the guy wasn't even listening to me, which I especially hate.

About 10 minutes later, the police arrived and asked what was going on. The guy came back out of his unit and walked over to us, maintaining about 20 ft distance. I explained to the officers what happened (while calling the guy an idiot a few times), and as I was explaining 4 more cop cars, one after the other, pulled in, all flashing lights. At this point, I am just pissed and I could feel that I was about to become verbally hostile, so I retreated. I just stopped speaking altogether and told my fam not to say anything either. The guy did all the talking. Then the officer asked me if I lived here and I said yes. Showed him my keys and my license. Then *breathe, Rue* he started questioning me about the volume of my trash, about where my unit is, how long I've lived here, my relationship to the fam, asked them where they live, what they were doing here, etc... I finally asked him as calmly as I could "you mean to tell me that you are seriously here with 8 other officers (1 car only had 1 officer, the others had 2) because this IDIOT thought that people were abusing the dumpster. Do you not realize how foolish it is that you're wasting my taxpayer dollars questioning me over some foolishness???"

Meanwhile, the idiot was over there looking all smug and called the HOA President, talking all loud and stuff. UGH!!! I can't even tell the story straight I'm so mad all over again. So anyway, the officer told me to calm down, and I took a few breaths and explained to him how intimidated they were all making us feel, my godchildren were there, my 70-y/o MIL was there, it was just too much. Over trash??? Seriously? So I got heated again and called the guy an idiot, and the officer told me that if I do that one more time, he would arrest me for assault. I said, "assault???" He explained that verbal assault is a crime and if I don't want to be arrested, I should just shut up.

At that point, I knew I was about 2 words and a finger away from going to jail, so I put my best fakesmile on my face, counted backwards from 10 and said, "sir, if you have no legal reason to detain us, we are going to leave now. Mama, y'all get in the car. Call me when you get home. I'm going to bed." I stood there to watch them get in the car.

Then as they were pulling off, I turned around to walk off and the officer said something to me. I turned around and said, "are you detaining me?" He said, "no, but I have a few more questions." I said "sir, there's nothing left in me except verbal assault. You're trying to take somebody to jail tonight, and I'm not going to be the one. I have nothing else to say to you unless you want to arrest me for letting my BIL take my trash out." Then I turned to the only young officer out there and said, "am I free to leave?" And he tried to play buddy with me, came over talking about "let me talk to you, ma'am." I was like, "no, I don't have anything to say and you don't have anything to say to me except to tell me if I'm free to go or not."

All that over some doggone trash.

OAN: thank God for growth. The LaRue I was that night is not the same LaRue I am today.

The LaRue I was that night is not the same LaRue I am today.
wow, I actually read that whole thing. Now that I have read it, Wow @ the situation

things like that are SO infuriating.

One of the things i tell my lighter hued pals, you cant know what that feels like. To be perceived as an threat all the time. to be questioned about where you live in your neighborhood, all the time. To feel the need to teach your children cop survival 101.

SO doggone true. There's just no understanding what it feels like until you're in that situation.

I do have a few stories, but that last one was probably the worst of all. (Other than the time the officers drew guns on my friends and me after we came from church...)

Last night, when I was leaving work, I got onto the interstate and there was a cop on the shoulder. I passed him along with 5 other cars, and then he got behind me. I immediately got nervous. So I maintained my speed and made sure I signalled when I got on the interstate. He got all up on my bumper, and then backed off. Then he got next to me on the drivers side, and then rode side by side with me. When I slowed, he slowed.

I look over at him and he is gawking at me. Watching me, almost rear ended someone else trying to look at me.

I had on a black pants suit and white blouse, his view saw a black blazer and white blouse. My hair was done and my make up was on, I had on my glasses (which are requesired for me to drive), I in no way looked like I just robbed someone. The car is mine, insured and registered. I was wondering what he could possibly want to tail me for. My Registration sticker expires in march 2011 and inspection expires in January 2011... So on the physical, I am fine. So why is he tailing me ?/?

He then speeds off and got behind this black guy. He was driving a mercedes with rims and he looked professional as well. This cop tailed him, and then follwed him off the exit, and then turns on the lights, pulling this guy over. I got off too, and went to the WAWA across the street just to make sure aint no Rodney King popping off. He had the guy there literally 2 minutes and then he got in his car and left.

The black guy comes across to WAWA and came in the store, he was frustrated, clearly upset so I told him that I saw him get pulled, and then the cop did kind of the same to me. The guy said that the cop asked if this was his car, and asked for his license. he had already ran his tags and everything. He had mentioned to the cop that he was on his way home from work and the cop questioned what kind of job would e have where he can drive a car like that, and then mentioned that the guy seemed rather young to live at the address listed on the license and to have that car...

Then out of no where, the cop told him to watch himself, and then left.
Now that was just foul, the dude was like "I just wanna go home to my wife and daughter..."

I felt so bad for him.

I don't know if this is considered profilin'?!!!  It happened about 5 years ago in Colorado Springs...I was at a bar with a couple of white guys.  I was the only black male in the group.  As we are leaving the bar, one of the guys gets into an arguement with another guy.  I was walking a lil ahead of him so I turned back to defuse the situation.  As soon as I get the situation defused....I get hemmed up.  The cop grabs me and asked me, "What is your problem?"  I responded, "I don't have a problem, sir...I was trying to defuse a situation before it got out of hand."  At this time, my friends come over and try to explain to the cops what had happened...he wasn't trying to hear it.  He let me know if he seen me anywhere else that night, he was taken me in!  I nodded ok and left...my friends and I were confused why I was the one who got called out.  Sad part is....it was a black cop!

Here's a story dealing with racial profilin: http://streetknowledge.wordpress.com/2009/01/09/baseball-players-son-shot-by-policeunarmed-and-in-his-driveway/ (http://streetknowledge.wordpress.com/2009/01/09/baseball-players-son-shot-by-policeunarmed-and-in-his-driveway/)

I'm very close friends and church members with two guys (father/son) who are cops.  One works for the State Attorney General's office and the other for the Feds (DEA / Border Patrol).  And after talking to them on many occasions about my problems with the way people are treated I have come to a least two conclusions.

1.  That there is a such thing as profiling. (D'uh right?!?!)
Ex.  Mississipi tag going east from Houston might get stopped in Louisiana.  Currently there are no other ways to stop drug/money trafficking other than random stops of people who fit profiles.  Young black males driving I-20 or I-10 with no visible baggage fit a profile.
- So I have learned to be okay with the getting stopped part.  But after you see that I am clean, let me go and have a nice day......please.

2.  There are some fools and racists and power-tripping people that they work with everyday.  So it benefits me to keep my cool and report them.  They know who those guys are and those guys have a reputation within the department.  Reporting them is the only avenue that can be taken with any possibility of having a positive outcome.
- I am working on learning how to keep my cool in those situations.

Kingrhollo:

IRT your #2, I find that they don't get off on mistreating minorities, they get off on getting a rise out of minorities. If you show that you're unaffected by it, it really doesn't give them that ego boost they were looking to get. But if you get visibly upset, flustered, offended, ticked, annoyed, impatient, or appear to be humbled by the situation, they will feed on that and it pushes them to keep up the behavior...

IRT your #1, I still don't think that's okay. I understand that there may be a profile and that they have no other way to stop certain crime, but people should not be pulled over unless they are reasonably suspected of committing a specific crime or are failing to adhere to traffic laws. I don't care if I look like Snoopy Dogg and drive the most expensive car out there, unless they have reason to suspect me of a specific crime, they really ought to just let me go.

But I get it... what can ya do, huh? *shrug*

LOL!!!! I had one ignore mine that had expired the previous day once... I was in Alameda and couldn't get to the DMV until I got back home.  He saw it and just didn't say anything, lol.  He did ticket me for speeding, though...

Rue's story reminds me of the one time I may have been a victim of injustice at the hands of the police.  It was the summer after my senior year and I was off to college in just a few short weeks.  I had some friends (they were kind of losers, but back then I only saw the good in people, lol) who were living in a motel that had a swimming pool.  They wanted me to come by and go swimming with them.  They were all native americans.

Two of the girls and I (their daughters had to be about 12-13), went down to the pool to swim.  I think the others were coming, but we were ready and went ahead.  Nothing seemed out of place, it was broad daylight and the pool was empty, so we were like, "Yes!".  So we're enjoying the water laughing and playing, and next thing I know there's a cop asking us to get out of the pool.  We get out and stand there soaking wet while he starts to ask us questions about breaking the lock to get into the pool.  I, being the oldest was the focus of all the questions.  I told him that the gate was open when we came.  He said he was going to charge us with trespassing because the owner had locked the pool because of some misconduct by someone, and we broke the lock to get in.  He asked if we lived there, and I told him my friends did, and kept saying over and over that the pool was open when we came.  The owner was asian and spoke little english but wanted us charged for breaking the lock.

Finally some people walk out of a restaurant next door, and the girl says, "they didn't break the lock there were some white kids in there swimming when we arrived at the restaurant."  The cop totally ignores her and the owner starts saying she doesn't know, blah blah blah... The cop eventually says, well you were the ones in the pool so if the owner wants to press charges we will charge you.  I. Flipped. Out.  I was like, you mean to tell me you have an unbiased third party who also happened to be white, is telling you that someone else was in the pool between the time it was locked and the time we came in, and you still want to charge us?  He got an attitude and said he would arrest me right then if I kept it up, and proceeded to write me a citation to appear for a trespassing charge.  He told me I had to call the courts to find out the exact time. I was livid. I asked him if he was going to get the information of the person who confirmed someone else had broken the lock, and he didn't do that either.  So I think I got her number or something...

I talked to the owner after the cop left and asked her why she didn't just drop the charges, she said, "I don't know... someone broke lock... I don't know..."  She really made me want to hurt her.

I called the number on the citation for like a month and they kept saying the citation never came in.  He knew he was out of line the whole time.  JERK.

Either I need to get help, or I have to find a(nother) way to channel the anger I feel about stuff like this. I got teary eyed as I was reading this, my heart is pounding right now, and I'm angry. Even though it was years ago, I'm angry.

Specifically, the part in bold... I cannot stand to see people abuse their power. Somebody once told me that I clearly have a problem with authority. I don't have a problem with authority at all; I have a problem when people ABUSE their authority. They need to do a better job screening these people before they give them guns, badges and uniforms. A lot of them have low self-esteem issues that contribute to them mistreating people just because they can.

He says it's very stressful because people just sweep it under the rug. He said there are feuds between the black C.Os and white ones over the treatment of the inmates...smh it's such ashame.

I remember getting pulled over by a white cop that used to come by my church every now and then. (He used to tear that tambourine up LOL!) Anyway I just so happened to cut through the hood to get to work a little faster. I'm driving, doing 27 because I know coppers are always in that neighborhood. Next thing, cop is pulling me over at my work! I am soooo angry because he followed me all the way to my job THEN decided to pull me over! I'm say "Good morning officer, can I help you?" He's like I pulled you over because you were doing 27 in a 25. WHAT?!? I kind of shook my head in disgust like are you serious. Then he said "Do you work here?" I Pointed to my parking tag with the Duh obviously look and shook my head yes. He said "Oh ok, slow down next time and take that thing down." (talking about my car freshener) *rolling my eyes*

I was working at the county building were the courts and the jail are so because I was driving through the hood, he probably thought I was on my way to court...smh. I looked at him like Dude, you can't come to my church anymore LOL! I'm telling my daddy! lol

Yeah, I was in tears too!  I tried to explain to him that I am college-bound and not a trouble-maker or anything.  He didn't care.  I believe he knew all along that it was going nowhere, especially when the lady from the restaurant spoke up.  He was just too prideful and arrogant to let the whole thing go at that point.

In the Utah suburb where my parents live, my brother was stopped by the little "Terrace Police" and made to walk the line and a bunch of stuff.  He told my dad and my dad went down to the precinct (it's a little two-bit operation, we know all of the cops there) and told them all off.  He told them that if my son does something wrong, stop him, even arrest him, but if you have no reason, then leave him alone.  "Yessir, Mr. Miller"  LOL!  They knew who my brother was, tryna act brand new... SMH...

But, I will offer an out, because Jesus is just that awesome that He could end it now before He shows up....... I have noticed that in times of tragedy, people forget about the color lines. Now we have had some bonafide tragedy already and it has helped, even if only temporary, but if something was to happen more severe on a national/international/or global level we could do it.

Eh...I only got one ticket and it was from some old battle-lac countrified state trooper black lady who was rude.  saying I was going 75 in a 70.  i'm like  ?/?  just write me the ticket already.  I hate I-10...

Well, I was in the courthouse once in New Kent County... I was  there because my inspection sticker had been expired for 2 years :D ... I saw the judge sending people to jail left and right. This one guy (white) tried to explain his way out of tailgating and flashing his high beam lights at an unmarked patrol car. Then he wrecklessly went around, at about 80+ MPH and the cop pulled him over. His defense was that he didnt know that he was a cop... The judge told him that it was illegal still. The guy was arrogant and cocky to the cop and to the judge, so the judge suspended his L's and made him do weekend jail. I think that the dude thought that he would get away with it, cause it was a white judge and white cop, but that day, justice was served.

When I went up, I was nervous, and the judge asked me is I was scared. I told him yes, and he asked why. Aned I told him that he reminded me of Judge Judy :D He then chuckled and asked me if I had made necessary repairs to my car. I told him none were necessary, and then he asked why was the sticker expired ?/? I tild him because I am lazy... He chuckled again and told me he admired my honesty. All I had to pay was court costs. He dropped the ticket completely.

I though I would get the elsectric chair. Seeing as how he sent the other three people ahead of me to jail :D and when I paid the court costs, my debit card declined! I just knew that I was gonna get thrown under the jail.

Not really profiling, but it is still funny to me. :D

I just remembered something else that happened to me that I consider profiling.

In the Summer of 2002, I'd just gotten my learner's permit, so my parents agreed to let me drive during our trip from B'ham to ATL. We were in a brand new, rented Lincoln Town Car. While on I-20 going back on B'ham, I see an officer in the median coming back around toward me. I'm in the right lane, doing the speed limit. He pulls up on the left and starts to pace me. He looks over at me, and my parents looked over at him while I kept my eyes on the road. He then slowed down, got back into the median and went back on the other side of I-20.

I think at first, he saw a young black guy driving a big luxury car and thought that fit the "profile" of a drug runner or something since I-20 is a route used for drug running. But after seeing my parents in the car, that flew out the window.

In some states, police can tell by the number or letter series on the license plates that a car is a rental.  The combination of a young black male plus a rented luxury car fits a profile.
