Try DR strings. They have some really good ones called "Lo Riders".  Marcus Miller also has a signature brand of strings with DR called "Fat Beams". If you use your strings for very long periods of time, get the DR "Black Beauties". These are coated strings designed to last about three times longer than normal strings. However they are more expensive. DR strings are perfect if you like to a have a deep growling tone to your bass or you do a lot of slap. If you like Marcus Miller's tone you'll love DR.

If you want to have a more warm, organic tone, try some nylon tapewound strings. GHS makes some very good ones. This kind of string is good if you want your tone to be more like Pino Palladino or Raphael Saadiq. Another advantage of nylon tapewound strings is that they don't corrode. I think they can hold their tone forever.

I use Rotosound flat wounds .105 to .45. They make the bass sound as smooth as butter and with a little foolin' around with the sound you can get almost an accoustic bass sound, especially when the piano is accompanying you.

Cool I would like to go with a string that is good for slapping and popping!!  How often do you take your bass to the shop to get the neck straighten?

I have used the DR-Lo Riders, but I use the high beams now (medium light).  They give a nice sound for slapping and popping.  At least on my bass, they give me a more even sound from top to bottom.

You don't need to have anyone else work on adjusting the neck. Just loosen the strings and turn the rod 1/4 turn at a time, tighten the strings and see if you have it in the right direction or height. It's more of a thing with patience. You can't break it.

I did not know that because when I got my bass they told me to bring it back in a month to get the neck adjusted because the neck is so long. Thanks for the advice
