I was browsing through the Piano room and saw a comment that made me pause. The person complained about a lack of responses to threads, and he stated that it seems Youtube has taken a lot of traffic away from LGM. I noticed this too.
So is it possible to play up or add certain features such as videos and such? I am a member of a guitar forum that has dedicated teachers who teach different styles (you pay of course). I know that there is a video section, but it is pretty primitive (IMO, no offense).
Any other ideas or thoughts on the site's future?
I would love to see rooms like the Jazz room be revitalized (its pretty much dead as it is).
We could also have more specialized rooms like "Urban Gospel" or "Home Studio Equipment" and such.
I realize this is not my site, but there is a lot of hidden potential locked in this site. I also know it is in NO WAY easy to implement change. :)

Personally, I think the very model of the message board is starting to get old.
LGM could use same games like farmville ... but with gospel music.
There could be a level where you have to go to the bishop or pastor or whomever to ask for a raise LOL!!!
Just kidding sorry I got side tracked
but yeah forums are kind of old like ham radios
-
cool looks like we have volunteers!!! ;D
-
You have a point there. The forum model is starting to get old. I guess people want a more dynamic way of interacting with others.
However it still serves a purpose. I would prefer to get detailed music info from a forum than some dude on facebook telling me "U cn play d 2 wit d 5 cord". :)We can add more dynamic features to this site.

I agree

ROFL!!! I wished I had some programming experience to make stuff like that.

I don't know about Youtube stealing LGM's thunder but one thing I do know is....Those of us who are hardcore LGM fans, ain't goin nowhere no matter what happens. If you noticed Fenster, those of us who leave for a while...always come back. *kanyeshrug*

maybe use open ID? for those who tend to forget their passwords
what about having the forum update like real time status updates? So that way I don't have to hit refresh ::)
A bar across the bottom like facebook? so you can open the chat window without having to navigate to a separate page?
A tool that allows chords/patterns for any instrument to easily be shown? this is the greatest strength of LGM the sheer volume of knowledge. The tool should allow those to have the knowledge to more easily disseminate that knowledge.
Advertisments on facebook and youtube? This could easily be by word of mouth. whenever someone posts a youtube video we can just include a link to the thread where intend to post the video on youtube. It would drive traffic to LGM.
Start a community service project where the purpose is to find a church that suffered some sort of hardship like all their sound equipment was stolen. And we would send out emails and ask around to raise funds to either purchase or help purchase equipment. This would be limited to once a year or something. That way we are helping our brothers and sisters around the world.

The forum/message board thing will never get old to me. I've been contributing my opinions and thoughts to message boards since the 90s and I love it.
As long as the forums are here, I'll be here. I do realize, though, that you can't force a stimulating topic and sometimes, it DOES seem like we've run out of things to discuss. You can't force discussion and can't force people to contribute. So I don't have the answer to that. *shrug*

wait, I got one!
I heard that Tonex is really a transposer that plays secular music that gets paid by his church that has service for 7 hours where they teach that all denominations are wrong except theirs.......
some stole his car and he blamed a black person.

I would love to see something like this. Having real time updates as soon as new posts are made.
The chat thing could be a bit difficult to implement though. I don't know jack about programming but i don't know how easy it could be to implement a facebook-ish chat box with the thousands of members that are on the site.

I think this is what i am trying to get at. There is a HUGE amount of knowledge on this site, most of it scattered here and there in stickies and random threads. There has to be a way of arranging the information. For instance the guitar forum i am a member of has a sections for different styles of music such as blues, jazz, funk, and so on. Its pretty cool.
BTW i am NOT trying to institute a coup d'etat here. :) These are just issues i was mulling over in my mind.

I remember sometime ago 4HG (I think it was him) commented that there were a lot of lurkers (sp) on LGM. I was a member for 2 years before I actually commented on a topic, and the first response I got back was VERY nasty in return. Luckily I like to fight and argue (yes I said fight and argue) and it sparked my interest even more, and well, 5 years later... :-\ I dont think there is an answer for the question. I just think like in some other ministries, there will be the faithful few that will continue to participate, while the others who just spectate.
Just because people dont respond doesnt mean that they arent looking either. You can see that from looking at how many times a thread will be viewed versus how many people actually respond.
But, whaddayado?
-
There needs to be an LGM iPhone ap....the world will be a better place.

I wonder how many of th eviews are actual people versus bots that are crawling the web

have you tried noteflight?
http://www.noteflight.com/ (http://www.noteflight.com/)
I know not all of us can read music but imo it is the best way to share music.

Interestingly enough, I use that site with my 8th graders.

Is there a better way to show the work you done on noteflight here on LGM?
Or is the only way to post the url?

I have been working on a new LGm on and off for a while. But I keep changing my mind about the direction. But soon, there will be some good changes coming.

Yeah I trust you sir.

Me too! ;D I started chatting back in '95 on AOL 2.6 or something. Been hooked ever since...
Someone mentioned games...other forums I belong to tried games and it did little to boost interest, imho.
And I'd contribute more musical stuff, and do occasionally in the guitar forum, but a lack of free time doesn't allow me to make videos and type out songs like I used to.
Of course, if I stopped chatting in these here forums... :D

Hey Ray I found the tool you need
http://www.appmakr.com/ (http://www.appmakr.com/)
I myself haven't used it. (I don't have an iphone) but it appears that you can make an app for your iphone with out any coding necessary. I'm sure you would need to get the owner of this website's permission but that may be the route to go.

well I was bored so I went ahead and tested out appmakr by making an rss feed of the ten most recent posts for LGM
http://appma.kr/biCPRM (http://appma.kr/biCPRM)
its very early and I'm pretty sure I won't actually continue developing this ... mainly because I don't have an apple computer so I can't upload apps to where other people can get it on their phone.
-
That was a short lived experiment
I discovered a few things.
1. Feed43 does not appear to update when their is a new post :(. It looks like the rss will need to be created using the php server :(
2. I have no idea how the user would login using the iphone app to respond to the various posts.
3. Quotes appear to confuse Feed43
4. It costs $99 to even have the option to upload the the apple app store
5. you need an apple computer to upload to the app store
6. Apple is wack :P
Oh well it was fun :)
-
6. Apple is wack :P
careful, you might get dis-fellowshipped by the good pastor of this heeya chu'ch
-
:D lol,
In that case I will be quiet :)
oh yeah i also discovered that feed43 only updates every 6 hours :( a little to late for some of these rapid fire threads oh well like I said it was fun

I guess it's in how you see LGM. I see it as a collaborative site for beginner to intermediate players. I don't know how many advanced players we have on the forum but how many are going to take that much time out for you. I see this as a site for the aspiring musician. I like that that site doesn't have a lot flash(because iPhone would be useless haha). It can be expensive to do too much on the website. Who is willing to pay that much for it? :) I have not kept up with web trends. I see a few things that can be changed that would drastically improve traffic. One is transitioning musicians into standard formats. We've got to get out of LH/RH single notes and into chord charts and sheet music. We also need to add variety to the music we post. This would drive up the number of people who visit. I have ideas but getting around to doing them is the problem. lol

LGM will always be the top dog!

Is this a possible hint at the State of LGM?
