Title: trying to understand the concept

hey people trying to understand the concept of putting jazz and gospel together. for example:
Ricky Dillard & New G "You Oughta Been there" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-4c_7deK7M#)

now i remember the song the orginal way back in the early 90's but the new way is different as well as interesting. is there a way hopefully i may get some assistance in learning the concept as well as learning how to play the song!!!

When there is something that I do not understand but I like because it excites me. I wrestle with the recording until it blesses me.
