Has anybody used a popcorn or a firecracker snare? If so, does it sound like a piccolo or is it better than a piccolo snare?

I've used a popcorn snare before. To be honest you can get a similar sound out of a high end picolo with the right head choices. I personally like the sound but I wouldn't say that it fits every song well.

i have played on both piccollo and popcorn snare. to me, a popcorn is much higher pitched and better siuted to be used sparingly unlike a piccolo which can be used whenever...........
its all good and its all GOD

I use a 10x5 black panther Mapex snare off to the left of my hi hats. I've got a friend who uses one of those as his main snare. I prefer that size drum as a auxiliary drum. there really is no cros-stick section on a 10" drum. I often play 12" snares as main snares. I like 'em better than 13" or 14" Piccolos.

Ziplex, I personally like the firecracker snare better than any other snare I have played on. It sounds like a piccolo, but with a more crisp sound. U feel me? I think you would like it but its about finding out what sound you want.

DEFINTE POPCORN. Ive played on both and popcorn sounds more crisp and high pitched.

I say firecracker over pocorn the 10 inch firecracker is slightly dryer but really has the same sound when u put a 1 ply coated head and tune it as high as possible on it and about a good hundred dollars cheaper

I typically don't play snares smaller than 12 inches. They really annoy me b/c I can't cross stick on them. What I do is tune my piccolo high, and tune my main snare to a pitch that works good all around!!
