WHAT MAKE A GOOD CHOIR DIRECTOR?
-
Being PREPARED and having CONFIDENCE. I know its a lot more than that, but in my experience, those two of the most important things.
-
IN MY OPINION
I THINK A GOOD DIRECTOR MUST BE A PEOPLE PERSON
HE/SHE MUST HAVE PATIENCES
HE/SHE MUST NOT SHOW FAVORITES....
HE/SHE MUST LOVE MUSIC
HE/SHE MUST KNOW VOICES
HE/SHE MUST BE ORGANIZED AND MOTIVATED.
HE/SHE MUST HAVE A VISION.....
THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF MY THOUGHTS......
SOME PEOPLE GET POSITIONS AND THEY TRUELY DONT WANT THEM.
THEY WANT THEM FOR THE STATUE BUT NOT FOR THE BENEFIT OF BUILDING A STRONG MUSIC MINISTRY.

I have a question. I recently changed my church choir's director due to a few issues. The new director doesn't know how to give out parts. Do you think the choir director should be able to give out parts to the choir?

The choir director should learn to find and give out (teach) parts. Either teach them or have someone teach them to do so. Immediately. If they can't hear or do parts, that IMO is a big FAIL in choir leading...

I agree with the above poster.

YES! If you can't hear, how can you correct?
Also, I think a good choir director has to have some sense of discernment. Don't drag a song out just because they do it like that on the cd. If it's time to cut it off, CUT IT OFF. Along those same lines, you might get to a part in the song that pulling on the heart strings of God...go with it.
Preparation is also key, and you must have a passion for what you do.
