Hello I have been having the hardest time catching old hym music. Any advise on what to do? Something that will help my ear, I have tried other tech, but they don't seem to be helping me. Need help badly.

There is an n at the end of Hymn. :)
Buy a hymnal, learn to read music with a teacher.
If you were able to learn to play contemporary stuff then you can learn the old stuff, just do whatever you did to learn the new stuff and apply it to the old stuff.

yeah, most of them have the same patterns and changes. often 1 - 4 - 5, and probably either a 2 - 5 - 1, a 6 - 2 - 5 - 1, or a 3 - 6 - 2 - 5 - 1 turnaround at the end. those are basic building blocks. Now most organists/keyboardists will add other changes and chord movements to give it flavor (not every musician wants to play the hymns as is and basic - they do tend to be kinda drab). But if you get used to their style (and each one will play it differently) u can wade through those movements and pick out the basic changes.
