Title: Pitch software
Post by: sjonathan02 on June 02, 2011, 03:31:04 PM
Hey Fam,

Is there any type of pitch software out there on the 'Net that one can purchase (or, get for free if possible)?

I have a track that's not in the right key. I tried using Adobe soundbooth but it distorts the sound.

Thanks for the help.

I don't think there is a way to do it without the sound being distorted. The further away from the original key, by default its going to get "sloppier" sounding. I've tried several different softwares, including garageband and some other cheap ones, and they all had the same result.

I would try virtual DJ (free version)  and change the pitch using the pitch bend. Its made for DJs, so there is no distortion. it will slightly speed up or slow down the track though :-\

Is there like free software that you can use to like change a recorded song from it's original key to another key with everything the same? I hope I'm asking right. Can virtual DJ do the same?

Jamal Hartwell and GospelMusicians has a software called MIDIKEYS. It is a great software, and trying to explain it in writing will not give it any justice.  It does what you are asking (change the key of the audio file that you have) and much more. Please view all of the following links to learn more. * I am not at all a paid spokesperson for Jamal or GospelMusicians.*

If you download Reaper DAW, they have a vst called Reapitch that will let you shift anywhere from cents to semi-tones pretty much like a transpose button. Only thing is if you are trying to shift more than a couple steps it's going to sound a little weired. I don't think there is anyway around it.

Reaper is free for 30 days but after the trail you can keep using it with no limitations you just get the nag screen for 5 seconds before the program starts.

Will give this a shot, as well.

Again, I can't thank you enough, family.

Audacity can do it pretty well, as long as you don't shift too much. How far are you trying to shift the song, anyway?

I believe it worked. Will have to burn a CD to know for sure.

Transcribe! (http://www.seventhstring.com/xscribe/screenshots.html (http://www.seventhstring.com/xscribe/screenshots.html)) is great for this and other uses.
You can
- change the pitch
- remove vocals (in most cases)
- equalize so that you only hear the bottom or top
- slow down
- repeat a section
- control using MIDI messages

$50 but well worth it.

You mentioned this earlier and I looked at it but the price tag kept me from pulling the trigger.

Although, looking at that 'repeat a section' piece, I may have to revisit the idea.

Thanks again, E; and, good seeing you.
