Yesterday I heard a minister say, "Your mistake will not make room for you, but your gift will make room for you.". My reason for posting this is not to have what he said critiqued or to start a debate. I realize that words from the pulpit impacts people in varying ways not unlike the Word. One scripture can be taken one way and then at a later time be seen in a totally different light yet a blessing just the same.
My question is, what is the above saying to YOU spiritually? My hope is to get different perspectives and perhaps confirmation of how it spoke to me. I'm trying to get everything I can out it.
Thanks

Did that message have a topic? Just trying to narrow down my thoughts.

I got to the service late. However, this was like one of those side comments. If you knew this Pastor, you would know that he can be all over the place and very deep. So you have to get what you can get or purchase the CD.

IDGI, but if I pretended I knew what he meant I'd say......ummm yeah...I'm drawing a blank here.... did people amen it or was there like a awkward silence?
-
Well, in relation to where i currently am in my life, it means (to me) that though my mistakes may strengthen me and cause me to learn, they will not necessarily lead to me finding better opportunities in terms of whatever i need to advance in life.

Hmmm... idk... Your mistake... not sure what that means. I keep thinking about Abraham, how he and Sarah decided to try to use their own way to make a son, and then hope that God would bestow the promise upon him. He was their mistake and God still had a son of promise by whom he would do all that he had said. God's not obligated to bless the mess we make trying to help him out-- the gifts that he gave us were given with his purpose in mind, so it is those gifts that will bring you into what he has already designed for you.
I was praying last week, and God was showing me that if we stay in him and obey him even when the future doesn't look clear or even promising, he will bring us to where we need to be. His plan will be fulfilled in our lives, then we don't have to worry so much, just focus on him and seeking him with all our hearts and obeying what he gives us to do.

"Your mistake will not make room for you, but your gift will make room for you.".
What I think about when I read "your gift will make room for you", I'm imagining your gift expanding your ability to grow in a particular area, through that gift. So "your mistake will not make room for you" will be the inverse, the fact that your mistake could not only will hinder your growth, but in some cases, cause you to take a step back, and shrink your ability to grow in a particular area.

I would like to see that backed up by scripture. Mistakes should be a learning experience imo. If you don't learn from them, then there's a problem.

"Your mistake will not make room for you, but your gift will make room for you.".
at first it wasn't really making any sense to me but then I came up with the following
If I am in between a rock and a hard place because of a mistake I will just be stuck.
If I am in between a rock and a hard place because God wants me there to use my gift. Then God will make some space for me.
Or...
Don't confuse the trials and tribulations Job went through with the mistakes we make. Some things happen to us because God allows it, other things happen to us because we are hard headed and stubborn ...

From what I could hear the people accepted it positively.
Thanks
Fen, U13, Nessa, PhB, & Jgause2 That's just what I was hoping read. Different perspectives

Any thing I do wrong or that is not in line with God's plan is not beneficial to me. Only the use of the gift(s) given to me by God will bring glory to Him and hence my reward.

To be honest, I'd have to hear what he said before and after that statement for me to feel like I understand where he's coming from.
-
What LL said is how I felt about it. I couldn't really even take a stab at it without knowing the context of the statement. Without context, it's just too broad a statement (imo).

That mistakes are made in life. But sometimes we allow those mistakes to hinder us like a blockage that will not allow us to grow. But in order for us to grow, we must use the gifts that God has given us to make room for other people/things/opportunities in life.

No problem, I understand.
Romans 6:23 (For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord) came to my mind when I heard it. Although every mistake is not a sin I feel that every sin can be considered a mistake by definition.
When I heard your mistake will not make room for you, I thought about it in a broad sense. What was our mistake? To me the original mistake was disobedience particularly on the part of Adam. Because of that mistake we lost our room or there was no longer room for us in the Garden. Since God gave his only begotten Son, it was that gift of God that gives the opportunity for eternal life. That Son/gift has made room for us all in his Father's house where there aren't just rooms but "many mansions".
That's the kind of crazy stuff that was going through my mind.

That was good, actually. Do you know the guy? Like where you could ask him about it?

don't be cheap Has!!BUY the CD LOL
actually;my first thought was it's an "upper message" about "giftings".But;later on-it conflicts with the WORD.
WORD says " ALL things work together for our good" All things means just that;as Ness said-ya fall + then get up + go ON And LORD works it out!!
I think on some level a lot of preaching-which is actually meant to encourage folks may skew things a bit out of context. We (at least I do) begin to focus on self instead of CHRIST.
Don't know where you're at-but will pray!

I've visited this church numerous times over the years. So I know the Pastor but not personally. Doc, I went into the bookstore and looked at all them CD's and was like where do I start? Every message I've ever heard him preach is very rich in content and thought provoking. I've gone to their website a few years back to see if he did any bible studies online. So, I couldn't choose ONE CD so I said I'll look online again. If nothing is there I'll have to start getting some cd's whenever I go back to my hometown. Bro. Hasmo has never been big on CD purchasing but with this guy I know I'm doing myself a disservice if I don't.
Thanks Doc
