It's hard to believe so much time has elapsed but three years ago, I made this post about joining the Music Ministry at my Church: http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,53210.msg510423.html#msg510423 (http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,53210.msg510423.html#msg510423)
Now, God has showed up/showed out some more!
There is a Gospel Quartet here made up primarily of Brothers in my church. I've had a chance to observe them and they are all good, upright walking, God-fearing men. The kind of cats you'd feel good hanging out with.
A couple of years ago, they put out a feeler for a bass player and I disregarded it b/c quite frankly, I didn't think I had the chops for it at the time. Subsequently, I thought about it some more but I figured that if they really needed someone, they would ask me. (The last thing you want to do is invite your OWN self to somebody's group.)
A few weeks ago, God put it on my heart to ask one of them them about "how things were going with the group." As soon as I mentioned it, he was like, "Man -- we've been PRAYING for a bass player!!! hit me up with your contact info!" I sent him a Facebook message and this is how he responded:
"YES!! Thank you man. We can use you. Man u will be a blessing to us. My manager will be calling you. Be blessed brother. We will keep in touch with you bro. Thanks again !!!!!"
I spoke to their manager a week later and not only did he welcome me with open arms but a couple days later he told me about a CD project that they're completing. As it turns out, there were three unfinished tracks and he wanted me to lay down the bass parts.
Lo and behold, he got me a CD to learn from and last Friday evening, I met them at the studio. I sat down and in two takes each, I laid down all three tracks in about 30 minutes. I spent the rest of the evening hanging out in the studio with the Brothers and talking about the next steps.
As it turns out, these Brothers play a LOT and have a lot of gigs scheduled all over the city and the Midwest and I am the official bass player.
Sometimes we forget just how good God is and to remind myself, I always have to remember these two scriptures:
Psalm 37:4: "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."
James 5:16: "... The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
God is truly good -- All the time!
