So I hooked my interface to the usb port on computer and plugged my keyboard into the line in of the interface, but can't play software instruments. I can only hear the sounds from my board and sense I chose software instrument it is not responding to my playing. Then I plugged keyboard by usb into computer and now can play software instrument. Problem now is the sound is only heard through the computer speakers, not good.
How do I get the sound routed to the interface and out through the power monitors? Do a need a separate usb cord for both the interface and keyboard (saw so vids where people do this) or am I just missing something?
Any help is truly appreciated as for now I don't want to do audio I want to do midi recording.

So your task is to make MIDI files??

No making midi files, just want to record using vst's to have better control over certain thing. But I did figure out my problem. I actually needed 2 usb corbs 1 for the board and 1 for the interface. The for the interface is receiving the output for the power speakers.

Just speculating here, but...
I think you may have to tweak the computer OS app that controls the MIDI/sound. Sounds like you are having trouble routing the audio through the interface. Don't know your setup, but try running the audio line out of the computer to your spekers directly to whatever audio device you are using to record. If you are trying to download songs to your keyboard, then it's MIDI not audio you want to route through USB or your interface. Does your keyboard have USB? Most newer ones do.
What I do with tracks is record audio files directly to my Mac's hard drive, then burn CD's. I use Logic...also can export MIDI...
