Title: more about 13ths
Post by: docjohn on November 22, 2011, 08:01:23 AM
Would you play multiple 13 ;in a row-like a blues progression?(in F)

Say you voiced your lt hand for a F13  Eb,A,D  a common jazz voicing-how do you get a nice open voice for the Bb?Most of the time ;a jazz Bb 13 would be Ab,D,G-a big jump @ faster tempos.

The voicing(above) because of the 4 ths-seems huge with only 3 notes.ideas?

Never tried it, but it could sound nice if you do it right.

13ths seem to me to be leading back to something or passing to something. Maybe the 1.  It never occurred to me to use them in a progression.  I haven't tried rootless 13ths either. I gotta check that out, Doc.  I am guilty of usually playing the 7th-3-6 in my right hand and the root in my left. It cries out, "resolve me".
