Post by: ssabass on December 21, 2011, 11:51:15 PM
Man these cats are bad. This cat can sing & dude on bass is a beast. Anytime can make a Justin Beiber song sound good, you are doing something right. I know it's not gospel, but u have to appreciate talent like this.    Dirty Loops Baby (Justin Bieber cover) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjVGJ3YFDc8#ws)

Wow....that was REALLY good.  It also shows that today's music (opinions about secular music not withstanding) has the potential to be real music IF......record labels and producers would just let the music be and stop trying to package it in a way that makes it appealing to the masses but is devoid of true musicality.

Well said... but all the producers and vocal coaches in the world can't get Bieber to sing like that. Lol

I think it's more a matter of economics.  As long as producers can sell records without having to pay musicians, they will continue to do so.  It's up to the consumers to demand quality music.

sadly musicans are rare thus there are few people who can tell what quality music is

But that begs the question: Doesn't the fact that the masses place value on "inferior" music prove it's quality?

no, the masses crucified Jesus that proves that just because the masses does it does not mean that they are making the right choice

But that begs the question: Doesn't the fact that the masses place value on "inferior" music prove it's quality? If it's so bad, why do so many people like it? Isn't a bit pretentious of us musicians to try to tell everybody what good music is just because we "studied it" and are more qualified to judge it? Maybe we are unfairly biased. </alrdynostheansrs>

I can't believe I didn't post here the first time around. LOL, I've been watching that video ever since, but I forgot to post about it in this thread for some reason. I know this isn't the Justin Beiber thread, but the Metal remix of "Baby" (with metal instrumentation dubbed over JB's original vocals) is pretty cool. Also, the 8Bit cover of it is vastly superior to the original.

Well it isn't about the "quality" so much as it is about filling a need.  Popular music is music for the people and if this is what the people want, then this is what the people get.
