Title: 2011 Gospel Music in Review
Post by: SirTJ on December 22, 2011, 11:18:08 AM
What were your favorite gospel albums of 2011?

I think it goes without saying that Kirk Franklin and Andrae Crouch top the list with the albums they put out this year. If I had to choose between the two, I, surprisingly, would have to give the nod to Andrae Crouch. This joint he put out hit the industry like a BOMB. If he was as popular now as he was back in the 70s, this would be a bonafide classic.

Donald Lawrence delivered as well. His album was a bit weird because most of the songs were remakes, but I love to hear DL's spin on classics. He just knows music.

Two newcomers: Daniel Johnson and Royal Tailor. These were two of my absolute favorite projects this year. Pure creativity.

Ricky Dillard put out a nice effort. I didn't enjoy it as much as previous albums, but it still delivered. Speaking of choir material, Kevin Terry released a VERY stellar project. Probably my favorite of the year in the choir department.

Kim Burrell's "Love" album was nice. Had a ting of controversy, but it's good music.

Isaac Carree had one of the most talked about releases, and for good reason. I even had to buy my mom a copy of this cut.

Then, of course, there's William McDowell, who is pretty much a consistent home-run hitter these days.

Love DL's album.

Did Jessica Reedy's album come out this year? If so, I LOVE her album.

Ricky Dillard was pretty much the only "album" I heard this year. I did hear some good songs by other artists tho.

Wasn't impressed with Jessica Reedy's album maybe I need to listen to it some more.  My fav album prolly would be Tasha Cobb's album followed by Kirk's.  Then I have to shoutout my homeboy's album, Milton Vann, cop it on ITunes.

I tend to lose track of what was released in what year, so forgive me if any of this came out in 2010.  This is my list of favorites in no particular order:

Kierra Sheard - "Free"
William McDowell - "Arise"
Kirk Franklin - "Hello Fear"
Vashawn Mitchell - "Triumphant"
Tasha Cobbs - "Smile"
Myron Williams - "Thankful"

I haven't bough Donald Lawrence yet, but I'm sure I will like it.

I bet.... Figures LOL!

Donald Lawrence and Kirk Franklin was pretty decent.

I have to check out Andrae Crouch's album!

Jessica Reedy was.. ummmm ok... Same with LeAndria Johnson...

Issac Carree and Dorinda Clark-Cole (Aseph Ward KILLED this production) was my favorite CD in 2011

Ricky Dillard was, well, Ricky... Not really his best IMO but vintage indeed.

What can I say about Judith McAllister?? NOTHING! She just got it!! Dope album!

Maybe it's me but it's been nothing but mixtapes majority of last year... I know cause I have at least 15 of them.

So, I been listening to Ricky Dillard's "Keep Living" album for 2 straight weeks. I can't believe I slept on this CD for so long. This is a beast of a project. Everytime I listen to it I get a new favorite song.
