Hi,
I need your honest opinions. I am scheduled to go to a women's conference in a week. I usually do praise and worship with tracks at this women's conference. I will continue to do this but there is a period during the worship where the tracks are inappropriate like areas where talk music would be appropriate and at the end we usually take time and worship. I think music could elevate the time of worship and the program in general. I was going to play during this time to facilitate the flow. I play ok I am a beginner but have been told I have good feel and sound pretty good. I have had my friends listen and I am no dynamo but I have learned a lot of songs and I am finally comfortable with singing and playing. Which singing is my strongest suit. I am not terribly nervous when I sing but I do get nervous when I play. I sound good enough that people think they can just request stuff then I have to tell them.. Umm I don't know that one.. Or they will belt out stuff and expect me to follow and I am not able to do that because I am still learning. I do not know everything about playing and quite frankly if someone gets up and tries to sing something that I don't know or in a key I am not the best in I will not play. My question is if you were in my situation would you play during this worship time or just let it be accapello? If I don't play there will be no music then unless I play a cd or something which I think is kind of tacky no one will as there are no musicians going on this Women's conference. Would you leave well enough alone?

I consider doing praise and worship with tracks as you normally do, and during the 'talk times' just concentrate on playing, or extending the worship experience.
With the latter, if you have no problem, or are getting more comfortable, playing and singing, then you can always do that.
Now, if someone tries to sing something you don't know, then, by all means, don't play, and let them sing a capella.

do it, but I would say, make sure you know when to get up; meaning preferably before there are requests. If you make your seat the keyboard, requests will keep coming. So play. then go sit way in the back in the congregation area
