i myself am really comfortable using a four piece because of the position of the ride cymbal. also, it is more challenging to come up with fills. i have a pacific set up with a 22" bass,12x14"floor tom, and either a 8x10" or a 9x12" high tom. my snare is either a 3x14" or a 5x14". how many piece sets do you guys use and what are their dimensions?

I play a four, five, and six piece sets on a regular basis. The four has a 10x8, and 14x12 toms. One of the five piece sets has a 10x9, 12x10, and 14x12 toms. The other one has old school sizes: 12x10, 13x11, and 16x16. The six is 10x8, 12x9, 14x12, and 16x14 toms. I believe all of the bass drums are 22x16. With playing the four piece I have to think more than the six piece. You can play the same patterns but you have to make sure that you won't run out of drums trying to get them out.

I play a 6 piece most of the time, but occasionally I play a 7 piece. I don't think its to much because it allows me to get creative and it keeps me thinking about what I should do next.

i have a 4 piece pearl. 12, 13,16,and i think a 20 or 22 inch bass. I just got this set a couple days ago. im bout to order a 10 inch tom. now a days i don't see players using 13 inch toms but for some reason i like this tom. now i see drummers using 10, 12, 14, 16. i like those two. I set my kit up with one tom over bass, 2 toms on my right and sometimes either the 13 or 16 on my left. i like playing this way better than the tradidtional way it just feels better to me and then i can set my ride low and even with everything.
gods givin you the gift, use to your ability.

hey yall, i had a really humbling experience happen to me yesterday, i was cooking and recieved a 3rd degree burn on my left hand from my hand to almost my elbow. i ahve to wear a bandage for a while so i have to play drums with just my left hand. it is really amazing to do so. you all should try it. it can only help you get better into the groove....
