Title: An 2-5-1 or a ii*-V-i in minor key

Hi guys back with another thread. I know that I am a beginner and I always asks questions on here, but I was watching this video and he talked about a 2-5-1 in minor key. Im struggling to put together chords for a 2-5-1. Usually Im thinking ii*-V-i which are the chords in minor a key but I know you have to have the bass note of a 2-5-1 and any vocing on top. Does it always work that way? Here's the video:
