The last thread of this ilk was very helpful in regards to instrumentals. So once again I solicit (solicitor......) your help. I am seeking to build a strong list of "Socially Conscious Music". If you don't mind please post examples of socially conscious videos, song titles, or lyrics that you think would be good. It can be gospel/inspirational but I do realize many will also be what we call SECULAR.
Thanks,
Examples:
Billy Holiday - Strange Fruit
Donnie Hathaway - Someday We'll all be free
Joan Baez - Birmingham Sunday I went to school with a sister of one of the girls
Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changin
Lionel Richie & Michael Jackson - We are the world
Timex Social Club - This world is all mixed up
Genesis - Land of Confusion Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise
-
Whats Going On - Marvin Gaye
Wake Up Everybody - Teddy P
Thank You Lord - Walter Hawkins
Colorblind - John P Kee
-
People Get Ready - Curtis Mayfield
Man in the Mirror- Michael Jackson
-
Caravan of Love-Isley Jasper Isley
-
EWF: Touch The World
-
I think Kirk Franklin also has quite a few of them
-
Special thanks to all my peeps for the input.
This song has quite a smooth intro and leads effortlessly into the song. Is the art of a nice intro less thought of today or perhaps I just haven't taken notice?
Wake Up Everybody - Teddy P
-
People are People - Depeche Mode
Give it a chance. ;)
-
Louis Armstrong - What a wonderful world
-
Nas - I can
-
Sam Cooke - A change is gonna come
-
Stevie Wonder - Higher Ground
-
Lupe Fiasco - B-word Bad
-
MJ - They don't really care about us
-
John Legend - Shine
-
'My Generation' by Nas and Damian Marley, featuring Lil Wayne and Joss Stone
-
I haven't heard of most of those SJ but I'm going to check them out.
Thanks.

Why? (and the remix) - Jadakiss
Keep Your Kead To The Sky - Jadakiss or The Sounds of Blackness version

Love Is Blind - Eve
That's all I can think of right now. Some of em might be a stretch, but there's a message in all of them.
-

I will be getting my sampling on with this play list as well with my collection of gospel records from the 60's and 70's. I'm a born again Christian musician that makes socially conscious music.
