Title: Your Own Sound
Post by: Mysteryman on March 22, 2014, 10:19:48 PM
Do you know the sound of certain bass players? I have watch a few on YouTube. I was listening to one more time  by Mississippi mass on YouTube with headphones while watching tv. I was thinking the bass player really sounds like Andrew Gouche I started looking at the video to see if they show who is playing and it was him.

I don't think I have my own sound on bass just yet. I'm still trying to feel it out. I'm more mathematical now.

Some I can tell who they are. By either their sound or certain riffs they repeat a lot.

I think freedom to flow within your limits is a part of your sound along with settings. I've got to work on more consistency with practicing since I do not play bass in church.

I can pick out quite a few bass players...if not necessarily by their tone, but by their playing style. Mo Fitz stands out all the time....and he tends to use certain riffs/nuances no matter who he's playing for. Gouche, Palmer, and Reggie White are also stand outs to me. Sometimes I can tell if Morgan Turner is playing, but I only know him to play on certain artist's material anyways so  :-\ .

As far as my own sound? It depends on where I'm playing. I fiddle around a lot with my EQ depending on the room I'm in. My Cirrus has a specific character though, so i generally try to stick with that. Not trying to make my Peavey sound like a Fender ya know? Outside of that, I know I use certain riffs a lot, and I play a lot of progressions the same way, so I guess that's part of my "sound"  too.
