Title: Drum Project(need help)
Post by: JFunky on March 22, 2005, 09:07:23 AM
Alright, so my church has a Roland kit right now and we are going to trade it in to get a new set.  We've had the set for 8 yrs.  It's time to move on.  This is what we're striving for:

   Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute 6 piece: 10x8, 12x9, 14x12, 16x14, 22x16B, 14x5.5 mpl. snare.

  Zildjian Cymbals: 16, 17, A Custom Crash, 8, 10 A Custom Splash,
13" KZ Dynobeat Hi hats, 20" K Custom Ride.

  Mics.  Snare - SM57, Kick - Beta 52, Overheads MXL 990 Pencil Condensor (x2)  Toms - SM57.

My question to you guys is can we get 1 Studio Condensor Mic. to pick up the toms and cymbals instead of having all the other mics. on each tom?

My church is in the form of a hexagon with high ceiling (contemporary)
and it holds up to 600 people.  I need help with the mics for the set.
We have about $5,000 to spend for the whole project.     Thanks.

I would suggest just going to the congregation for added support for the project and completing it all at once.  For high quality recording you will need to have that kit miked correctly.  IMHO.  PT.

I have to disagree with you on that last post bro.  Overhead Mics. give the cymbals a nice nuance.  You need them for a big church.  Otherwise your kit will sound really good and the cymbals will stay behind.  They're not just for recording.
