Title: What is the difference between a passive and active bass?
Post by: youngstrings on August 01, 2005, 12:04:45 AM
HI all you musically talentented folks. I am thinking about purchasing a new  bass, but I don't know whether to buy a bass with passive or active pickups. What is the difference? and what kind of sounds do they produce?

Hey I'm not trying to be a plug or anything, but scroll through some of the old posts.  We've answered this question before in detail (maybe a couple of times). You'll find pretty good posts on this topic a few pages back.

God Bless

An active bass has an eq that has it's own power source via a battery meaning that it may sound lil better and may be louder, changing something there may be a getter difference. passive there is an eq but has no power changing the controls the difference is smaller. which one to get that's up to you go to the store and try both of them out. i like passive it's a lil quieter a lil less noisey so i make up the difference by using a seperate pre amp that also has a noise gate. hope this helps

Hey Youngstrings, go to page 13 and check out the post
"Do you prefer passive or active basses? Why?"
It has some pretty good (and basic) info on the differences.

God Bless
