I've kind of let my voice rust out.

I need to retrain it...big time. When it was hot, I sang Tenor and Alto.

My wife keeps bugging me, because in the 9 years we've been married, she has never heard me sing. I guess I feel a little bad, because it's not where it used to be. I guess, if I take a few months to do exercises, it'll be on and poppin' again!

Hey I didn't know that there was a forum for gospel singers.  If I had known earlier I would have been apart of this a long time ago.  This is all good with me.  Anyway,  I am a soprano but I can sing any part.  In my choir, my director calls me a hopper.  Because if there is a part missing, I sing it so those singing that part can here me and pick it up or I'll just sing it the entire time if need be.

I can direct and I think I would do well at vocal arrangement.  I have an ear for that kind of thing.  One day there was an arrangement I could not figure out, so when I gave it to the musican, he said that it was a completly new arrangement and it sounded fantastic.

Anyway, I just wanted to join in.  Everyone was voicing their gifts and I wanted to do the same.  God Bless Y'all.

Smooches!!!  8)

Hello,
I'm primarily a 2nd Soprano w/ the Tuskegee University "Golden Voices" Concert Choir, but with gospel I sing whatever. From 1st Soprano to baritone
I wish I had a pic to show you guys of me because I'm only about 5'1 and I look like I'm about 16. It's funny because when I start to sing a solo, the first thing people say is "What is this little girl about to do?" Then when I start to blow they can't believe it. Not trying to brag, but it always cracks me up.

I sung in the sunshine band (childrens choir), I sung in chorus from 7th to 8th.  I made it to the Florida All State choir.  I would've sang in chorus this year but they sound a hot mess.  However, I do sing in my highschool gospel choir.  I would sing in the church choir but they also sound a hot mess.  I come from a singing family from both sides. (mom and dad)  I basically been singing all my life.

I can sing!! PRAISE THE LORD!! Actually Im the only one  8O in my immediate family who can hold a decent tune lol  :D

So when we were younger my dad preached, mom prayed & layed hands or did floor ministry, brother played drums or was the sound technicain and I sang, wrote songs and played lol.

God has blessed me to be a part of some awesome choirs and undergo some voice training and has allowed me to have an incrediable range.  I sing alto but I can sing it all when called upon to do so...not boasting just marvelling at what GOD has done.

Im excited because my son started singing early and at 5 can stay find a beat on the drums pretty well and loves to sing. Im looking forward to singing with him when he get older lol  :D

I'm told I can still carry a tune as an alto/contralto, but not very far.  Back in the day I sang second soprano.  Put it this way: I sing well enough to give out parts to a choir and they still know what I meant.  To myself, though, I don't think that's what God had in mind about "Make a joyful NOISE."

I was told that I am an alto.   I have always had the desire to sing but I was never confident in my voice.  I now sing in my church's choir and I am loving it.  My girls make fun of me when I sing practice at home.   The lord loves my voice because he created this sound that is within me so I am going to continue to sing for him no mattet what!  I just won't do a solo right now.  With a little voice range practice I will sing a solo in the future. :D

Don't feel bad, Mia -- I sing with the fellas too, when I do sing.  Technically, a female who sings in the tenor range is called a "contralto."  There's a lot of us out there, actually.  They call us that so we won't be self-conscious about being a female singing tenor!

I am a 425lb White Boy That sings what some folks Call Lead (male soprano) But I can finally Hit Most of My Tenor Notes again. (I quit singing In 1992 when I re- dedicated My Life to God) Then In 2001 I discovered That Just Because I shouldn't Sing in Bars....... Didn't Mean I shouldn't Sing.. So I Joined The Choir Our Diector at That time was a Scrawny White boy who sang Like a cross Between Luther & Whitney houston. Man Could He Blow..Anyway When I Drank I sank white trash Redneck Country....Garth ...Hank.. (Occaisionally i'd Slip in  some Teddy, or James Ingram..) Now I find Myself  doing Smoky Norful or Brookly Tab stuff .. Doing Because of who You Are From Judy Jacobs & Juanita Bynum Sunday.. It'll probably get Me Ousted From The Hillbilly church I'm at Now.. LOL They all Like Gaithers & The Iasacs.. I Love all Music But The penetonic scale (sorry Can't Spell) soothes me.. I grew  up singing soprano in the church, went to school got placed as an alto, I have a new teacher now who says i'm really a soprano...so i'm so confused...lol. I guess I can sing soprano to tenor...I got a pretty wide range. The only problem is, it is a little harder singing gospel now because I love singing low and rich, but when you stay down there for a while, it is harder to get back into your upper range.

I'm between an alto and a soprano 2.  When I sang in chorus and in my gospel choir, I sang soprano.  When I sing in the church choir, or praise team, I sing alto.  I like alto better, because when I sing soprano, it comes out all airy, I gotta learn how to NOT sing from my throat, but from my diaphram.  \

Be blessed

I've been told that my vocals skills are a combination of Marvin Winans, john P. Kee, wih a touch of Fred's falsetto. I also have that special thing in my voice that most preachers have, "the Squall", and the fat man's growl ;) so i'm reppin all the mid-range brothers that have style...no disrespect to those of you high singin cats with that great tone like smokie, tonex, and deitrick haddon...there is room for all of us, baby... ;D

Male Soprano until I was about 17 (puberty) & am currently an AltOr (tenor/alto) .  Trying to find some formal training to see what I can really do.  Been singin' since I could talk.  Haven't sang lead in years but will Solo on my original work.  I guess, that's about it.  Thanks for starting this room.   ;D

For most songs I can do any part. In every choir that I've been in, they constantly switched what part I sang depending on the song. When it comes to harmonizing with only a few people, I take either the note that no one else can or will take, or the tenor note. (when harmonizing, you can do some pretty stuff singing tenor!)

Scales:

I feel you. I have a good range but my comfort zone is btw. a soprano and alto. I like to cheat now and then.

Singing tenor, but can teach all notes.  I'm a choir director and full-time teacher for our college gospel choir.  When it comes to actually singing on stage, I can do tenor to alto.

I'm an alto too and I sing very well.  I'm a Kimberly Mc Farland, Lecresia Campbell type of alto(yes they are both alto's).  People hear me and they can't figure out if I'm a soprano, alto, or something in between.

You sound like me 2 years ago....I just started getting comfortable leading praise and worship.....when you can master the tenor section, then you will become more comfortable....start listening to CDs and just singing the tenor note on it.  Also like I said earlier to someone, when it comes to leading, find out what key the song is in and find what notes go in that key. and then play around in it to find what runs sound good and whatsoever....

I don't know how i feel about male sopranos......I mean i have the range to do it, but it's nothing like the pure sound of a female soprano
