Title: Whats in your aresenal???
Post by: Mrbassics on July 21, 2006, 07:50:35 PM
Not sure if this has already been posted, but I was interested in knowing....

What type of bass do you have, and whats your dream bass?

As my main guy right now I have the Ibanez SR 506, but hopefully by Aug 4th my BTB 1205 will be ready. I would love a Ken Smith, ay model... What is everyone else out there using???? Whats your dream bass???

My main lady (my basses are female) is an Ibanez srx300 solid outstanding bass.

My dream basses are warwick thumb bass 4 string, either srx900 or sr500 both 4 string Ibanez and I'd like one of them BTB 5 string. with the bart. eq and pick up and monorail bridge with 35 inch scale neck.

Fender Custom Dinky Jazz 4 string
Warwick BO Thumb 4 string
Warwick Custom SN Dolphin 5 string
Warwick Custom SN Dolphin 5 string Fretless
Warwick Custom Streamer Stage II 5 String

I may sell the Streamer to buy a Music Man Stingray...haven't quite made my mind up about that yet.  My dream bass would be a Ken Lawrence 5 string Chamberbrase 36" scale...mmmmm!!!

Yes, very much insured.  And yes, I use the same user name at TalkBass.

Bradley, I'm not rich.  Just been good at buying used and trading up over the past 20 some odd years.  There are many many guys over at TalkBass and over at Alembic Club (my other two frequent newsgroups) that make my arsenal look like Little League.  DWBass can probably "amen" that.  Not that this is an arms race or anything.

Peace,

James

I had to notice the double neck sat in the middle of the couch...that's sick!!!

I have trouble with storage for my gear...goodness knows what kind of problems he must have!  I also noticed a cat in the pic.  Poor thing must struggle to find somewhere to sleep at night with all that equipment in the house!  I have to say, that is very excessive.  I had 6 Warwick basses, one MTD 535, couple of Fender Jazz basses and a backline the size of a small African country at one time and I thought that was too much, even though I was a full time working and touring musician then.

He has lots of amps, but what caught my attention is the Euphonic Audio collection.  Those amps are ridicuously expensive...I know that because a very good friend of mine is the main dealer and main endorser for EA for the UK.

I accept that he is a collector and I can respect that...one of the most impressive collections I have ever seen.

the lucky man who owns this equipment is John Turner.  I know that I've seen that double neck conklin in the middle.  Here's his page on his band's website.

John Turner owns the array of Conklin basses about to be attacked by the psycho-kitty in the picture.  The lonnnnngggggg list of stuff is owned by the guy that hosted the outta control gear-fest I started a thread about a few months ago.  Over the two days about 25 different bassists showed up.  I think the host had more stuff than all of us combined.  Especially amps and speaker cabinets.

Peace,

James

My wife doesn't let me get a set of $35-$40 DR strings without saying something.

Is this what I have to look forward to?

She understands who is the boss, she doesn't quite understand how it is to be a musician.  She's not a musician and hasn't been around one until we met, so she's slowly coming around.  But I must say, if it wasn't for her, I would not have been able to have the things that I do now.  I would be a broke musician with a lot of equipment.  She has really taught me the value of saving and catching a deal.

I sent him a pm.  If it is indeed for sale, do you have a feel for what a fair price is?  I see new ones in the $500 range and used in the $300 - 350 range.

Peace,

James

That's cool man.  My wife is very supportive of my music too.  But back to the original question, I am a guitar player but I do have a Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V (the Mexican version).

So far, it's been real nice to me. There are a couple of issues with it. First, it's a little hissy but that's due to that digital pre-amp's setting and the second thing is that it tends to run a little warm. Yamaha says the fan only comes on at a certain temperature. I think that is a poor design. The fan should be on all the time, in my opinion.(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/dwalmz/YamahaMiniRigOfDoom.jpg)

Thanks DW,

Perhaps those are some of the issues that have it being discontinued...

LOVE the Bass, I know a guy who has one just like it... LOL!
