Title: The most powerful song that you ever played.....
Post by: Ladymusic88 on August 07, 2006, 10:26:19 PM
Okay, my fellow LGM brothers and sisters.....

Now, there are some gospel songs that God will use you to play that will really minister to your soul first, and then to those who are listening.  What is the most powerful song that you ever played on a horn/wind instrument?

One of the most powerful songs that the Lord allowed me to play is "For Every Mountain" by Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers -- that song really ministers to me!  My sister actually did a liturgical dance to the track, while I played the alto sax (in the background), during one of our church conferences a few years ago.

What is the most powerful song that God used you to play?  On what horn/wind instrument?

God Bless.

because its public domain, has typical blues changes and its a classic, the horn player and the congregation will get lots of emotion and feeling out of ...... wait for it..........

"Near the Cross"

don't forget.  You can always change the feel up of hyms....raggae, latin (samba), go-go, new jack swing, straight jazz swing.

I'd have to say "Praise is What I Do"

A couple more that I love to play:

More Than Anything - Lamar Campbell
Holy, Holy, Holy
What a Friend We Have in Jesus

The most prophetic song would be "Great is thy Mercy" by Donnie M. on my Trombone.
we modulated this song from F to F# to give an even greater impact.

This past Sunday, I played my version of "Amazing Grace".  I dedicated it to my father who passed away in April.  I played it in both services.  The Holy Spirit filled me up and then some...  When it was over, each time...I wept....

There is Power in music... Music is the great equalizer.

Wolfram,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your father.  My prayers go out to you and your family.

Yes, music is definitely a powerful tool.  Especially when the musician has been through some trials and is playing under the anointing.

What instrument do you play?

Be encouraged!

"Praise is what I do" is a VERY powerful song and I feel God's presence when I play.  For me, it HAS to be "AWSOME GOD!!!"  It was the recessional song at my wedding and when I play it now, I can hardly play it all the way through.  God is TRULY awsome and just the simplicity of the words of the song ministers to my heart and everyone in the audience.

How about ("Changed")  by Tramaine Hawkins  (old School)
                 (Stand)   by Donnie Mc Clurklin
and the list goes on an on   (from old to new)   Nothing gets old with the lord.  The delivery may change with time but the message is ALWAYS the same.

I love playing singing and also playing an instrumental solos with all sort of variations.

You can work with any song to make it very inspirational.

God Bless

Another one of my favorites is " Center of My Joy" Richard Smallwood. Along with, " Your Tears" Paul  Morton. Both have a vamp section near the end that will allow you to minister under the anointing.

Great is Your Mercy (By Donnie McLurkin)

God uses us and our instruments as instruments to minister to his people. One of the most POWERFUL songs I was allowed to play was a rendition of "We Fall Down" by Donnie McKurklin. I played the solo on my Trombone (Shaquita: thats my horn's name) and was accompanied by my brother on drums at a Youth Convention in North Carolina. These folks were trying to act all dignified, sidity, booshi, or what ever you want to call it but when that Anointing began to flow through that place them "negros" began to holla, scream, and shout and give HIM the praise as if they was in their own chuirch and not in a ballroom at a Convention.

That was when I began to understand the power of the ministry of Music, even if there are no words attached to the harmonic notes!

God is Good,God is Love!!!

There are probably more sophisticated pieces I've played that were very powerful songs, but I think hands down it goes back to Amazing Grace.  That song speaks to everyone...it has such a universal anointing to it, that few folks hear it without being moved.

That's a hard question.  I'd have to say when we recorded the "Cover the Earth" CD with Israel Houghton, (Live at Lakewood), that whole service was the most powerful worship I've ever experienced.  We could hardly play our horns.  It may sound old fashioned, but the song "Because He lives" has always touch my heart.  "I really enjoyed "You are Good!" too.  If you get the chance, listen to track 16 on Ken Reynolds latest CD.  That's the funnest solo I've ever played, (tpt).

Although I haven't logged on in a while, it's good to see the site is still up.

Anybody working on any new solos lately? I find that it's good to keep those "chops" up and to always have a repertoire ready...just in case.

When it comes to the entire body of work....the musicianship, the message of the song, the building of the song from beginning to end, the song energy....hands down, my choice is HOSANNA by Kirk Franklin. Its not a slow one like most others above, but to me is the most powerful that i've played.
