We write our own songs etc and some we still need copywrited so to be on the safe side will a contract secure us or should we do both! i know word of mouth goes a long way but i dont want anyone to be givin stuff away...

like my dad always say... "put it in writing"! i wood say get together a contract so everyone will know wat yall cant and cant do with your material. Yea sure... a hardy hand shake will go along way... but wat if some comes to your one of your group members on the side (yall didnt no bout) and ofter them a deal rite on the spot, all they askin for is a piece or a sample of yall work. next thing u no ur material is being used by someone else and yall lookin around like... HOW DID THEY GET THAT???
but again... this is just MY 2 CENTS...!

You could just start off doing stuff that is already out then consider your own stuff later. Because if you have some tight music musicians will play it other places. Even the ones you know so you have to keep some things to yourself until the time appointed when you are ready to get in the studio.
