I'm a Jazz man. I love to play mellow jazz, that allows every accent note to pop. ;D
I've that those jazz influences can be heard in my style.
What about you?
Jazz? Funk? Latin? Carribbean? Urban?
What's your style?
-
Mines what ever I need it to be!
-
i say mines is stra8 JAZZ !!!
Cant forget that NEO SOUL!!!
-
My style needs an update. I learned to play during the early 90's. This is when most church drummers could do a few triplets and everybody thought you were just that dude. I'm slowly learning the chops and techniques of the skilled drummer. I think I can identify my style around funk. Funk has been around before my diapers were declared funky. It's more attitude than skill sometimes with funk drummers.

Adaptable!!! What ever the job calls for.

I definitely see what you're saying. We must be able to play different styles.
But everyone has an identity. Their own personal flava.

Since you put it that way, Jazz is my identity ;)

Yo I'm straight up nasty pocket! When I say that. i mean that i play POCKET, not striaght. I do what the song requires. I can chop it up, but to be qutie honest, you'll never hear me do that because, unles youplayin wit Usher, crazy chops gonna sound kinda dumb. I do have a lil rock n roll power to my style though, kinda wierd

...my style consists of every idea that comes my way from any and every genre. Then, I can translate that to whatever the music or song calls for.
...right now I want to learn how to play Country and sound authentic to an extent. The same with Samba (Sounds of Brazil).
-
The older I get the less I do!
I just stay in the pocket and try to think about the lyrics of the song and sending praise from my heart to the Lord!! It doesnt always work that way, but I try my best to stay focused on why Im playin.
-
My style is called "The Black Tornado". I'm completely surrounded by drums, so I have a drum throne that spins me around, automatically, at 200 revolutions per second...
-
My style is "hitman" or chameleon type.... What ever the moment calls for.
I try to approach it all from a spiritual side be it secular or sacred I acknowledge thtmusic directly affects ones spirit. This makes it convencing, makes it touch people.
I am more into subtlty thinking percussion instead of beats... keep it smooth... all about the sound... Priority to play the Song in the moment (sometimes a song requires a different approach based on the audience/message of the event). I like to create atmospheric sound. I am more into song writers. Drum sound/play Carter Beauford/Akira Jimbo, Jeff Porcaro, Bill Bruford, Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Chris Dave, Billy Cobham, Thomas Lang/Virgil Donati/, Blue Man Group, Drumbassadors.... phrases instead of licks delivered with POWER to change the environment. Musical conversations.
With these influences I play surprisingly open by picking my spots and listening to the whole sound.
-
My styles are dance, rock and contemporary. Those are most I play when I play drums.
