I just started playing bass about 5 months ago. Progress has been slow but steady. However, I'm in desperate need of some help.
I've been coming to this site about for the past 2 months, getting lots of pointers from many or you. My predicament is that, I'm getting many new songs thrown at me at a very fast pace and often times without sheet music or sometimes with sheet music but no example to play from. The pianist and keyboardist at church encourage me well and state that I'm learning very fast but that's not enough for me. I've got to give good the very best I can. So this is my cry for help to better reach that goal.
OK.... I got long winded there...
This is what I'm looking for if you can help.
1. A comprehensive site that might have bass lines for gospel music.
2. (More immediate need) Bass lines for
(Come on and) Bless the Lord with me ... Hallelujah
I Love You Jesus

Hello All,
I'm not a new bass player, but I've been away from it for quite some time now (about 10 years). Though I've rarely played at all over the last few years, the urge has never left me. To make a long story short, I found my way back into my old church a couple weeks ago, only to find that the organist had quit and my old buddy on guitar was carrying the entire service by himself.
He and my pastor asked if I could help out and of course I agreed. But now, the Praise team is throwing songs at me so fast that I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up, And more importantly, I don't want to sound like I've been away for so long.
I've watched this board for a couple weeks now and I sincerely appreciate all of the great tips and advice you guys are posting. You are truly a blessing!
Hopefully, someone will read this and post tabs or advice for these songs:
Isreal - Rise Within Us
Isreal - Another Breakthrough
I'll be fumbling my way through these this Sunday, so I'll be grateful for any help you guys can provide.
Again, thanks for the immense help you've already given me. I look forward to reading more and growing steadily in my ability and faith, with the help of all who post here.

Why do you need tabs? If he know's the major scale (Which by all means he should) then you can play this with ease. If not then i would suggest that you hold off on learning songs and learn the basics first.

Welcome to LGM. If you go into the Chords and Tabs section you will find a lot of interesting songs tabbed out. You'll also find instructions on how to read tabs. there are also a lot of songs that have charts written out. Give those a shot too.

I'm teaching my soon-to-be 9 year old son how to play it in C. My 11 year old has learned it on the piano, so they are actually going to perform it this Sunday!!!
Since it is for a 9 year old, I simplified it quite a bit.

If you go to YouTube you can find a walk-through on how to play this song. I recorded it last night. L-A-T-E last night. When I get home I'll start a thread to link to it (can't do YouTube at work). Hello everyone. I am an beginner bassist and I am trying to digest as many songs as possible so that I may play for my church(which currently has no bassist). One of the songs sang during worship is Israel's song take the limits off. I wanted to know if anyone had the tabs to that song? I looked but saw no request or post for it. Hello everyone. I am fairly new the the Bass guitar as well as this site. I encourage everyone thats new to the Bass and looking for tabs to first get a working understanding of scales,modes and intervals. Then, start to train your ear to pick up the root notes of each scale or mode. Also, you should listen for the rhythm of the bass line. I am in the process of training my ear and it has opened up a whole new world. Having an understanding of theory and having an ear for music will promote tremendous growth. That way you won't be a handicapped musician looking for tabs all the time and you'll be able to jam in whatever setting you find yourself in. Tabs are like sweets, they are cool every now and again while your growing but to much will "spoil" your growth as a musician and you'll become handicapped later on.

Good morning all ... just heard "A Bright Side Somewhere" by Judah Generation ... I've got to work through a portion of the bass line that's a little tricky at 4:25 in the video ... seems like the piano and bass are walking "this way and that" through the scale for about 24 beats ... I don't know if you got your tab for Amazing Grace (I just joined today)... but I have my version that I put together with 3 guitars that I give my Guitar Students. Welcome to LGM! Do you also go by kiat on Talkbass? Think I saw you on an Alembic thread.
Anyway, a while ago....a lonnnng while ago, the site had some maintenance issues and was down for a while. A lot of stuff was lost or never linked back up. That includes a lot of the charts and tabs.

What key is it in and what's the lowest note? It is almost always possible to play 5-string focused songs on a 4-string, provided the sub-low E notes still sound good up an octave. Personally I prefer to play a 5 and take advantage of the low notes in flat keys. Lately, though, I have my son play at church and he much prefers 4-string. I almost have to threaten his allowance to get him to play a five.
