I think that's an awesome idea, it just so happens that I have some time off, so I will try to put some beats together, meanwhile I still have some beats on this site, I know they are from last time, but maybe they can work until we get some more. Peace!

Well, here's my entry. My playing is a little sloppy, in my opinion, but I just didn't have a lot of time to record with my busy schedule.

I've already added everyone's submission to my DAP (digital audio player)  ;D  ... I don't know why you had second thoughts, brotha!  I liked what you did there!  You're timing was on point ... When I go back and listen to recording of myself, I realize that's an area that needs attention.  That's what came to mind as I listened to your track.  Everyone is at different levels and we are only here (should be) to help, give & receive constructive criticism, and encourage so that we can become better musicians for the Lord  :) ... don't you agree?

cool!

I know how that is, DW, I purposely didn't want to hear another version, else the same thing would've happened to me.  I started listening to Mystery's midi with bass version then I abruptly stopped it so I can have my own creative flow.

Thanks Ladybass for your kind words, you do not know what that mean to me to hear those kind words from you.It comesata time when I beginning to think,I was just wasting my time trying to play bass again after a 35 year layoff.
Let me ask one question am I in the pocket enough?I like to know from the vets and what do it sound like I need to work on more. And yes I play this whole song with my 2 fingers and not my thumb,God it was hard keeping it out of action.

I say you were definitely in the pocket and more importantly, the right notes were played within the chord progressions. Ear training is very important and this is a great exercise in working on that!  Myself, I had a hard time choosing what to play on the first section!

Lastly, don't mind me playing 'grammar police' on your quote.

Ahhh...........much better! I can hear you now! I can tell you why it's booming though! You probably have bass knob maxed. When I record, I usually run everything flat. I may boost the treble a bit if I'm slapping but that's it. I'll then eq the track afterwards!

Curious question... how are you guys doing these recordings?  Are you running the bass to a head or headphone amp and that to the line in on your PC, or something else?  What progam are you using to record the actual mix?

The sound card I have can record any sound it hears so I plug straight into the computer. I use the basic windows software. Like Sound Recorder or Windows XP Movie Maker. I use itunes to convert the file to mp3. Other wise I will use Yamaha SQ01.

Audacity or Wavepad is what I use, although I haven't recorded myself in a while.

I plug my bass directly into my PCs sound card, too.  The software I use is Adobe Audition.

Post by: DWBass on March 15, 2007, 09:42:30 PM
I plug my bass into---->Zoom 506II---->Laptop Soundcard---->Acid Pro 3. I import the audio file and Acid will do a Beatmap (unless I already know the BPM of the audio file) and set the BPM exactly. I snip off any excess or dead space. Record my bassline. Maybe add a loop or 2 to beef up the track. Do some minor EQ'ing. Then I take it to Nero for Mastering.

I plug my Bass into my mixer and take the tape out from the mixer and feed that into the laptop. and I use CakeWalk to mix tracks, and Wavelab to record into a WAV. file, then I use a MP3 converter to convert from WAV. to MP3.
Title: Re: With the silence here.I say it's time for another Bass Off
Post by: DWBass on March 16, 2007, 08:40:29 AM
Can't you render from Cakewalk directly to an mp3 file (or any audio format)? Or do you have an older version since Cakewalk is now Sonar? I can render to any audio format (at any bitrate) directly from Acid Pro! Midi files get converted as well.

Title: Re: With the silence here.I say it's time for another Bass Off
Post by: ladybass on March 16, 2007, 01:57:46 PM
how are you guys downloading the backingtracks?

Can you be a little more specific?  I'm not sure if you're asking how to download the track from LGM or how to load it in a media recording program.  If you're talkn about downloading from LGM, simply click on the link provided in a forum post and do the following to download to your computer:

Otherwise, you would have to refer to your program's user guide to load or import the backing track.  My program allows me to record a single track or multiple.  If, when I'm in the mutiple track recording section, I decide to bring in a backing track, the program will load it into the first track.  I then set the second track as a recording track.  Then I begin the recording session.  My program, as well as others, will play the backing track while recording the other.  I hope this was helpful.

Thanks... I already have the setup for .wav conversion, but wasn't sure what software to look for to do the actual mixing and recording.  I'll try to grab some trial versions to see which I like best, then play around with some light recording when I have time.

uh oh BassFool is back!!!  ;D  I'm glad you submitted something, that was the niceness ... I remember those nites we used to play together on yahoo .. we had our own shed going on :-D

yes,
Those were the greatest nights.  We should get something going like that on this site. I did the same thing with B3, and he is in Korea. (wow). I talked to a long time friend of mine and he plays bass also. hes going to put something together and I will post it. He might even come to the site and join up. Lets cross fingers.

Thanks Ladybass. Ive been playin since 04 by the way but i still consider myself a beginner as i dont know everything there is to know or play on the bass. Im a young explorer who finds this site quite helpful.

sorry about that Ed ... I wasn't sure how long you were playing so I decided to check your profile.  It says beginner.  I think you have a good ear for grooves .. you demonstrated that on that clip  :-)

Those are some great clips!  I guess I'll have to give it a shot... it's been pretty busy lately, but maybe I'll get some time this evening to put something together.

We used yahoo audio chat. I just plugged into my mic and she was able to hear me. I had a set of head phones on and I was able to hear her.
