Title: 1-4-5 Advice
Post by: B3Wannabe on June 30, 2007, 07:09:44 PM

What do you guys do, if the song is strictly 1-4-5....not a bluesy 1-4-5, just straight 1-4-5 or reggae.

really just depends on the feel of the song, what the other instruments are doing.

I MAKE it a bluesy thing lol. If it will fit (like jlynnb1 said--depending on everyone else), I usually treat that like a Imin7 - IV9 - V9 assuming I can get away with it.

Otherwise, you're just majors all the way, maybe a V7, but if that's the case you're talking about having some ol' time church (mountain style lol).

I tend to use triplets to spice it up!

rest chank rest chank 123      123

1     2       3     4      1&2      3&4

the  "123's" are quarter note triplets..you my play the prevailing chord in a triplet rhythm or arpegiate in triplets

this might actually be another cool thing we could. take something like this, pick a key and then show how we'd approach it. i guess you could show as many styles as you wanted to/had time to mess with. this would probably be more helpful(though not as fun) than the jam sessions. (i definitely say we do both, this would just probably help guys in real-world situations)

to take it further, we could even take specific songs that we might all face and give a take on those.

When I say 1-4-5, I really mean 1-4-5! Majors! LOL

We did one song today, in C, I did something like this...

---x---
---5---
---5---
---5---
---3---
---x---

---x---
---x---
---2---
---3---
---3---
---1---

---x---

---3---

Sometimes, I'd dropped this filler in after the 1....

---3--5(h)--3--------------
---------------3--5(h)--3--

The songs have a reggae feel to them.
