Ok guys, here we go. We have one week from today, and our tracks need to be turned in by 7pm eastern next Monday. Let's have some fun, and hopefully this will turn into a regular thing that we can all have fun with and learn from. Can't wait to hear what you guys come up with. Here's the link to the backing track (don't forget, it's the Albert King BT):

-
i think i had originally said that we should all wait and turn ours in at once...but if might be motivation to hear some sooner, so feel free to post as you complete yours.
-
i was gonna post one tonight, but i had too much to do to get ready to go out of town tomorrow.....anyone else done one yet??
-
Sweet, this thing was burning a hole in my pocket... er, hard drive lol.
I actually got the time to do this on Monday. I said it on the other post, but each guitar take was one whole take--I didn't paste it all up lol. The 1st lead was one, the slide lead was one, and the 2 outro leads were one.
There are still a couple little rough spots, but I didn't want to run out of time, so they stayed.
Please, don't hold back. Hit me with some criticism. I don't get to play as often as I used to, and I know I'm rusty, I could use the pointers.

Can't wait to hear everyone else's stuff!

Amen,Amen, that is what i call, stepping up to the plate. You are one BADD dude
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I LIKE THAT IT WAS A GOOD TRACK
-
It is now offering time in the temple!!!!!!!!!! ;D
Niiiiiiiice!
-
Thanks, guys. I wish I had more time on it, but I usually get to a point where it just stops progressing lol. I gotta learn to stop when it's in that "good enough" stage.
Once we get onto more of the gospel stuff, I'll really have to stretch myself out to keep up with y'all.
-
That was cool, JayP. You and I were thinkin' along the same lines and once you hear mine, you'll understand.
I recorded it a couple nights ago but haven't been able to post it yet.
I'll try tonight. :)
-
Ok, here's mine...clams and all...and I honestly didn't know that Jay was doing a slide-thing, too. ;D
Albert Collins meets Vodka Collins :D (http://home.comcast.net/~goodsaltmusic/lgmjulyjamgtrdave.mp3)
-
I mean Albert KING...ah, whatever...the joke is ruined. :-X
Maybe call it "Albert King meets Chung King"?! ;D
-
Dave, I'm jealous of your melodious ZZ Top thing you've got goin' on there.
The compound bendy thing is sweet (Nuge for president, btw...).
The tone is killer (I need a new mic--it's a cheapie, and I didn't feel like diggin' the condenser out *lazy* lol)
Slide part is killer as well. Much more controlled than my antics.
**disclaimer** I hadn't played in days... and I hadn't played slide in about a month. lol
Great take, Dave.
-
Good job JayP and Dave wow! Can't wait to hear others.
1 John 4:4
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

GUITARDAVE
You really should be ashame of yourself ;)
Some people are just blessed

Albert King Kong? lol
-
yesssiirrrrr!
JayP - great playing man! you've got an awesome touch and the slide is fantastic. my only beef is that the song faded out and it sounded like you had plenty more in you! im reaally diggin the slide too bro, great feeling, i could almost see your eyes close on certain parts, lol. you are really in tune with your instrument and it shows.
Dave - cant tell you how instructional your take was. more color in it than ive been exposed to to this date! love the way you climb up to the root octave (hope i made sense) at the start of a phrase, never heard it that way. and at precisely 1:40, that two note walk up.... i had to stop the track and rewind to make sure i heard correctly...love it man, will definitely practice that.
i could go thru and praise every part of each song. great stuff guys, anytime i have to immediately pick up the axe after listening is great stuff to me.
-
1st of all I love what I've heard so far. Dave you're killing it man. JP I haven't heard your track yet which brings me to my point. I'm having trouble downloading the mp3. I hadn't even heard the backing track until I heard Dave's version. So I was wondering Dave... if you would mind posting the backing track like you did your take? I'd really appreciate it. Doubt I'll make the dead line being that this is the last day and there's no telling when you'll see this, but I'd still like to have a go at it.
Take it easy,

Oops. I thought today was the deadline, but I just read that it's Monday. Might just make it after all.

You have to sign up (free) to soundclick to download tracks hosted there.
I can try and post it up on my comcast page later on tonight if you're still having problems.
And maybe we should extend the deadline out a bit...end of next week sound good?
-
Fine with me. I was going to post my, even if it was late, anyway. Don't have a lot of "musically inclined" friends around here so I could use the feedback. I'll give it a try later and let you know.
Thanks,

Dave, love your intonation on the slide work. Absolutely stellar!!!! Killer playing otherwise!
Great to hear everyones unique language on the blues!
OK, lets hear more!!!
-
my only beef is that the song faded out and it sounded like you had plenty more in you!
LOL, that's 'cause I was playing, and the track ran out! I tacked a bit onto the end of the track and faded it out, since I liked what I had just laid down (didn't think I could nail that ascending hammer on thingy again lol).
Thanks for all the kind words, guys. I know I'm a bit ham-fisted compared to Dave, but that just shows me what to work on (I'm raw like sushi... and I'm ok with that lol).

Sheesh, your track was very good with some really cool licks in it.
Your slide tone makes me green with envy.
Serious, that's the tone in my head that doesn't make it onto tape when I play.
I do always try to find a melody that I can work with. To me, a simple melody gives me both a place to build up from and a home plate to return to. It's something that sort of makes my noodling have a point. ;D

Yea;use that as a stepping stone. But,you are for SURE in the house ;)
-
Thanks, Dave. I appreciate it. I just regret that I'm not afforded the time to actually practice like I used to.
Really, I didn't do anything to make that slide tone "pop." It's the Dean mentioned above. The pickup is a Classic 22 from Carvin (I believe it's a C22N; neck position--a KILLER p/u for the price--no, a KILLER p/u regardless of the price). The tone was rolled back to *about* 6-7 (chrome knobs, no numbers lol). Slide is the only time I will use a tone knob!
I use a glass slide, and that was plugged straight into my Classic 30--no effects whatsoever (so was the straight part). The Classic 30 is stock except for Sovtek tubes, and a Peavey Sheffield speaker (basically a Celestion copy... dark, british speaker--it's what was in the 5150 cabs).
We need to have a live jam. We should all meet at a guitar center somewhere and drive the staff nuts lol. ;D ;D ;D
-
My bad, the slide guitar I use is in detail in the slide video post, not above. Sorry.

It's after Rown's comment.

Whoo ya'll are playin! Someday I will be able to hang a bit, thanks for the blessing and I am looking forward to hearing more. You as I heard the intro I could feel what was going to happen, I loved it now I need to figure out how to put it on the fret board ;D
-
Dave and JayP, great work guys....enjoyed getting to hear you guys stretch out a little bit. I just got back from being out of town, so I'm gonna try to get one up tomorrow.
Come on people, let's hear some of the rest of you!!

well, here's a pretty sloppy take, did it with my Eclipse. I'm gonna try to post one with my Tele, and maybe one with an Ibanez. It's got some rough moments....but my 3 year old wasn't really cooperating with my recording today, lol. A little embarassed to share this, but oh well, if nothing else it's good for a laugh....

Yeah, woo baby, jlynnb1, that was embarrassing... ::) :P ;)
The Trower is strong in you. Don't know if he was ever an inspiration of yours but I hear a lot of him in your playing on this take.
Very, very nice.

thanks dave, i really appreciate it. believe it or not, i can't say i've ever listened to trower. i know that's crazy, but true.
it's strange...but playing in those rehearsals for 12 hours a day 3 days straight last week relly fatigues my hands....it showed up in the sloppiness...(not to mention that i'm just way out of shape technique-wise, lol)
i'm gonna try and record 2 more with different guitars when things calm down around here.....but thanks again for the kind words.....nice to hear from a player of your caliber....
-
come on....where are everyones tracks, let's hear em!!
-
jlynnb1, that's some good stuff.
I agree about the Trower. That cut's Troweriffic. It's also a bit Framptontastic as well. You might as well give in and buy a univibe and a leslie... The Trower-y stuff is the little 6ths thing that follows the piano (as in the "Too Rollin' Stoned" outro--one of the greatest riffs EVER), and you had a couple of those slow, dissonant unison bend things (speaking of Frampton, and Trower... why won't they tour together?!?!?!?).
That's a smokin' tone, too.
Man, I wish i was as "out-of-shape" technique wise as you are. I need to try to apply a more scalar approach to my playing.
Hearing everyone else attack this is inspiring.
And, yes, where is everyone else's??????????????

Did you drop that a key? That's funny, if had been in G, I probably would have put it in A lol (just the difference of people's preference, I guess).
That's a nasty soundin' fuzz, bro (in a good way). What is it?
Welcome to the LGM crew.

im trying to get mine up tonight.

yeah, since it goes to that dominant 4 chord you can have some fun with the 6ths.
i definitely appreciate you not ripping up my sloppiness though, lol. i had a smokin take going with the tele last night and broke a string about 3/4 of the way through...i was so ticked, lol.
-

Sloppiness??? ?/?
I really didn't pick anything specific out. It must have been on something that I can't play, and I just didn't notice lol :P
-
it was more me not being able to pull off some stuff i used to could do in my sleep, you know how it is. plus there were a couple of pitchy bends in there.
i'm still ticked about my tele take getting ruined!! i was vibing on that one.
-
jlynn,
sloppy my foot. hot diggity dang i like that man. good stuff. nice build up from the beginning to the end. ive already bust my guns in the first minute of a song, lol. man great tone too, yessirrr.
and im tryin to figure out why everyone else's is so clean (i know its technique) but ive got strings ringin out and erething. maybe compression of some sort would help a lil too. no clue.

Just a combination of muting with different parts of the left and right hands and fingers and a little pick control to be sure and not hit want you don't want to hear. ;)

it is tough to save something to play over that same progression over and over.....it was tempting to let it all out at once a few times....
-
come on guys....let's hear some more tracks...i want to get our next jam set-up.
-
well, doesn't look like anyone else is interested....shall we move on to the next one or give it another day or two??
-
I don't know... I thought there were a few more dudes that had tracks done. I wanted to hear some others, but I'm cool with moving on if y'all want to.
lilbb, shaun, and I was thinking there was one more...
Where you at, guys?
-
I'll try to post my tonight. I just got the track yesterday. Had to download it from some one else's computer, because my internet is down for a while. It will be up tonight...or tomorrow at the latest.

I'll add mine when I can, but keep them coming!!! This is good stuff!
-

you might try www.putfile.com
i know soundclick is a pain at first, but it'll be easier in the future as we do more of these...because it will have all your tracks on your artist page.

Some very good licks in there lilbb. I'm feeling that fuzz, too. What's your rig?
-
Some very good licks in there lilbb. I'm feeling that fuzz, too. What's your rig?
thanks jayp. fuzz is probably from the amp setting i was on. Peavey Transtube Bandit 112, cheap cables, and a yamaha strat copy. distortion settings on the amp are high gain, modern, and vintage.... i was on the vintage setting. and i keep the "tube" knob turned all the way up. thanks again.
-
No problem, man. That's definitely a spongy distortion. I liked it.
Those Transtubes aren't bad amps at all. Very good tone for solid states. I've only played with them in stores, but from my experience, I think Peavey nailed that one.
I was at GC yesterday, and their Windsor head is only $499... I want one just to tear into with mods. Pretty much a Marshall rip-off from what I've read.
I guess I'm kind of a Peavey nut lol. Once I can afford Soldano, I'll change teams.
-

and i got this amp from an ex-coworker of mine. it was his son's, and he sold it to me for 125.00. probably best deal ive ever gotten on anything. it was pretty much in new condition. really rugged amp, and i like that. when i play my semi-hollow thru it...awesome sound.
im wondering will i ever get into the head/cabinet setups. are they just better for larger venues? at $499 it be's a long way off, lol.
-
Honestly, if you're mic'd up anyhow, a small combo is plenty for almost anything.
I used to play my 5150 and a Laney 4x12 in my old church (all I had...). I wasn't mic'd, and it was in an old gymnasium, and it never went past 3 lol.
Yeah, it gets pricey. I haven't bought an amp in about 9 years.
My 5150 was $500 used. A decent 2x12 will run you about $300, and a good 4x12 will be at least $400-$600.
A 4x12 has a great tone, but I like it most for it ominous presence on stage bwahahahahaha... sorry. I'm cool now.
A head/cab setup gives your more flexibility with your tone since you can change cabs, etc, but really, a good combo will serve you for your entire life.
-
nice job bb....thanks for adding your track. some realy nice licks in your take man, keep at it.

That's a good start you got there. How long have you been playing? Seems like you have a hold on the basics of it, now it's time to start honing those skills. ;D

gtuys, i've been out of town since last sunday, sorry i haven't been on top of this. let's get jam #2 going. i'd still like to hear from a few guys who had mentioned getting on on this.....
