Ribbon in the Sky is ii, iii, VI in Db…over and over again…And if you’re like me and Db isn’t your friend, just drop it down to C…the half step won’t be too noticeable at all.

I found these chords posted on LGM and www.earnestandroline.com, the chords are in Db so you will just have to simply transpose them down half a step.

My Life Is In Your Hands
Kirk Franklin
Key=Db to Eb

Chord Symbol
Chord Symbol/Bass Note
(  ) Melody Note
**In the sheet music, the Db2 refers to adding the 2 (or the 9) to the chord and NOT the inversion of it.
Please read down the right side the notes in (  ) and become familiar w/the melody
then you will know how to place the chords (the inversions).

SECTION #1:

Db - You don't (F, Ab)
Db\F - have to wor-(Db, C, C)
Gbmaj7 - ry and (Bb, Db)
Ab - don't you be (C, Bb, Ab)
Ab/C - a-fraid (Gb, Ab)
Db //
Gb\Db
Db - Joy comes (F, Ab)
Db2- in the morn- (Db, C C)
Gbmaj7 - ing, trou-bles (Bb, Bb, Db)
Ab - they don't (C, Bb)
Ab/C - last al-ways (Ab, G, Ab)
Db- ways (Ab)
Ab/C - For (Bb, C)
Bbm7 - there's a friend named Je- (Db, C, Db, C, C)
Gbmaj9 - sus who will (Bb, Bb, Db)
Ab - wipe your (C, Bb)
Ab/Gb - tears a-way (Ab, Gb, Ab)
Db2/F
F7/A - and (Bb, C)
Bbm7 - If your (Db, C)
Db/Ab - heart is bro- (Db, C, C)
Gbmaj9 - ken, just (Bb, Db)
Ab - lift your (C, C)
Gb/Ab - hands (Bb)
Ab - and say (C, Db)
Db
Gb/Bb - Oh (Db)
Ab/C - I (Eb)
Db - know that (F, F)
Ebm/Db - I (Gb)
Db -- can make (Ab, Ab)
Ebm/Gb - it, I (Gb, Db)
Ab - know that (Eb, Eb)
Adim7 - I can stand (Db, F, F-Eb)

Db/Ab - no..(Ab)
Ebm/Gb - ..o (Bb)

Db/F - may come (Ab, Bb)
Gbmaj9 - my way, my (Ab, Gb, Db)
Ebm7/Ab - life is (Db, F)
Ab7 - in Your hands (Eb, Db, Db)
Db

That whole verse repeats

Then the second ending is:

SECTION #2:

Ebm7/Ab - life is (Db, F)
Ab7 - in Your hands (Eb, Db, Db)
Db
Fm7 - with
Bbm7 Jesus (F, F)
Ebm/Bb - I (Gb)
Bbm7 - can take (Ab, Ab)

Ebm/F - what (Bb)
Db/F - may come (Ab, Bb)
Gbmaj9 - my way, my (Ab, Gb, Db)
Ebm7/Ab - life is (Db, F)
Ab7 - in Your hands (Eb, Db, Db)
Db

The next verse, use the same chords from SECTION #1
the lyrics are:

So when your tests and trials
they seem to get you down
And all your friends and loved ones
Are no where to be found
Remember there's a friend named Jesus
Who will wipe your tears away
And if your heart is broken
Just lift your hands and say

Same Chorus....Oh, I know that I can make it, etc., etc.

For the key change at "My Life Is In Your Hands")

Ab/Bb /

The words to "You and I" are:

Verse 1:

Here we are on earth together
It's you and I, God has made us fall in love...it's true
I really found someone like you

Will it stay, the love you feel for me
Oh will you say, that you will stay by my side to see me through
Until my life is through

Chorus 1:

For in my mind, we can conquer the world
In love you and I, you and I, you and I.

Verse 2:

I am glad, at least in my life
I found someone who may not be here forever to see me through
But I've found strenth in you

I only pray that I have shown you
A brighter day, because thats all I'm living for you see
Don't worry what happens to me

Chorus 2:

For in my mind you will stay here always.
In love you and I, you and I, you and I...you and I ohhhh.

In my mind we can conquer the world
In love you and I, you and I, you and I.

I have 500+ gospel CD's and about 6600 MP3's on my computer, and a few years back I did a survey of hundreds and hundreds of gospel songs to see what key they were in. This is what I found (I thought it was interesting). The keys are list in order from most popular to least popular.

1. Ab
2. C#
3. Eb
4. F#
5. Bb
6. F
7. C
8. G
9. D
10. B
11. E
12. A

Notice that the BLACK keys are the top five, and the keys of D, B, E, and A are the bottom four. Also, F is the most popular WHITE key, and what was interesting to me is the the key of C is not nearly as popular in black gospel recordings as one might think.

Tonality...  You get used to hearing things in those keys, so you tend to continue to write things in those keys.  The composers making music are the same cats that were taught to play the oldies on the original blacks.

Just as "C" is and easy key to play in, Many found the flat keys to be an easy way to get the jazzy/bluesy sound they were hearing in their heads out without actually having to know how to do it on the actual boards.  Playing on the tops was easier to think about at the time for those that were teaching themselves how to play.  Much of our history, thusly is effected because of this.

Guitar player will traditionally write in keys that they are familiar with as well.  Those keys are the bottom of this list.  What I find interesting is how far away the actual tonality is between Gospel music and full fledged blues yet how similar the messages were in the beginning.  It wasn't until the Blues became commercialized that we started to see it split off into taverns and bars.  A mere half step separated Eb from E or Ab from A but a world of difference in tonal color case produced.

The amount of heritage in your record collection is astounding.  I hope you realize the treasure you have there... :)

You'd have to listen to the song to see how the RH chords flow. Also the words don't exactly line up with the chords, but I think you'll get through it.

I know this is a weird way for writing it. See, I'm use to writing chord charts on my program. I didn't know if i could post them on here or not. If so then idk how. But I hope I didn't confuse anyone. If so, I recommend you listen to the song and try to determine the chord duration.

Dr.King,If you get this message and have the time, can you please send me the chords to If this world was mine and one more you can send me for my reception. My wedding is May 23,2015.I thank you so  much and I have been so busy and working so I have not been here for a while.God bless you and your family. Thanks so much.I am excited and I love my piano. It is another one of my miracles.I ask the Lord to give me something to do and in my sleep,I was playing the piano so I got up and my daughter had a small keyboard and I turned it on and started playing. My first song was Precious Lord.Who knew?God did.
