You might be referring to the snares, which are what give a snare drum it's characteric sound.

Pearl offers a maple piccolo snare in your price range.

Well, what better snare to achieve a piccolo sound than... a piccolo?

Maybe your church drummers don't know how to care for/use/tune it?

Be a little more specific. What are looking for in your next purchase? Steel? Maple?
What sound are you looking for?

...and you're absolutely right. LOL  I can't believe what I just read. LOL

...the thread starter should go ahead and purchase one of those ddrum 7x13's that a lot of gospel drummers have along with one of those Classic Pork Pie lil' Squealer. (5x12)  That's the sound he wants to achieve anyway.  (One dimensional - POP!!!)   ;D ;D ;D
