Title: Tye Tribbett & G.A. Standout Album
Post by: Bigtime on May 09, 2008, 04:14:17 PM
Wuz up LGM its ur boi Chris aka Bigtimekeyz reppin Roc City, NC....Everyone knows that Tye is my boi but To me i was displeased with the cd except for 2 songs #2- Hold On and #12- I Made It Through. He kind of took a u-turn to rock & roll/Christian. I didnt here anything that really excites me on the cd. Victory str8 crushed this Standout cd. Even tho Pudge did an excellent job...but i also noticed while reading the cover that Spank was up there???? ?/? but to me i waisted $12.99

What do yall think?

Man this CD to me is Great. I guess I am saying this because I kind of like the rock gospel sound and I am tired of hearing the same old progressions. If you are tired of gospel music that sounds the same then this is the cd for you. The songs in this cd also most importantly have powerful lyrics that speak to the life of the christian and exalts GOd as well. He also has  some great worship songs. If you want to take a listen to see if you like it or not just select, Copy and paste this link
 http://www.bet.com/NR/exeres/B01629D4-553D-4F49-BF5B-A95E925DBC6B.htm??Referrer=%7BB01629D4-553D-4F49-BF5B-A95E925DBC6B%7D

This Cd takes some getting used to but it has a powerful God ordained message behind it. I think Tye meant for these songs to be a little on the radical side because his message is very radical. He is telling christians to stand out from the world and unleash the power of God in the Earth. At first I didn't like it too well because I thought it was too "crazy". After 2 days I like every song on the cd especially "look up", "chasing after you", "well done", "hallelulah", "I made it through", "prodigal son".  This Cd is basically a powerful warning to kingdom of darkness to me. There is nothing shy about it. Everything is powerful and in your face. I love it.

Man, I really wanna hear this CD now.  I LOVE rock-type music, so this should be right up my alley.  Give it another listen Farm man, and try to keep an open mind.  Like Josh said, rock music takes some getting used to, but it is still a powerful type of music that can be used to give God glory just like gospel.

Many "black" people don't like the rock music because they aren't exposed to it properly.  Either that or all their friends listen to rap, hip-hop, or gospel and in order to fit in they listen to it too.  Many say that's white people music, but that is not true.  It is all music and you shouldn't be scared to go outside what you're used to hearing.

The CD is great in my opinion. I like his CD Victory better. This CD indeed has that rock type feel. I think that's sound greats though. The name of the CD is "Stand Out" Tye has a very unique sound and very few can mimick. I can a lot of listeners want the churchy kinda sound, but that's why we have the John P. Kee's, James Hall etc. Voice wise Tye was on it. Not to mention the harmonies and I recommend yall listen to Well Done. It's crazy! But in my book Tye get's a B+

Good morning fam,
I purchased the new Tye Tribbett cd also. I still enjoy listening and playing selections from his previous cds especially "Victory" more. I think that "Standout" is pretty good. however, I cant relate to any songs on it yet. I guess as I start listening to it more, I may enjoy it more. I'm used to a churchy, holiness type sound. Im a school teacher;therefore, If I had to grade this particular cd , I would give it a C+. :o

lol!

"Good in the Hood", especially the chorus, sounds like a theme song for a TV show!

Bigtime, i feel you on that ("feeling like you wasted $13"). But, It just seems like, when you spend your hard earned money on something, you should know what you're purchasing. So in buying a cd, what's the solution? lol

You either:

1) wait and listen to a friends copy,

2) wait until a used cd store gets it, then preview it first. OR...

3) despite that many may frown upon it, you could download it and preview it and If you like it, THEN PURCHASE it. But if not, then DELETE it. lol

But at least, you now have an "informed" way of spending your hard earned dinero! 8)

I just listened to snippets of the new Tye CD and I have to say that I am IN LOVE with this CD.  This is the sound that I have been trying to create every since I got into rock style music.  Looks like Tye has beaten me to the punch, LOL.  Oh well, I'm going to cop this CD A.S.A.P.

My favorites so far are:

2. Hold On
4. Bless The Lord (Son of Man)  *most favorite right now
8. Hallelujah
9. Let Us Worship
15. Good In The Hood

I'm sorry, but this CD is straight FIYAH!!!  :D  ;D  :D

In my opinion, I think that this album is GREAT!!!!!!!! The originality and creativity of Tye Tribbett and his MD Thad is SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! (one of the songs on the album). They think outside the box when it comes to gospel music. If you know something about Music Theory, you will really appreciated the album because of all the creativity he uses with theory. I will give the Cd an A++ just because of that. Yeah the album still has to grow on me because I'm not used to the comtemporary rock gospel sound. But I wasn't used to it on his last CD with No Other Choice but that is now one of the greatest songs he has produced. I do like the songs: I Need You, Chasing After You, Hallelujah, All Hail the King, So Amazing, Let Us Worship, and He Has Made Me Glad. Just be open to different sounds of gospel and listen to message behind it.

THIS IS THE BEST CD IVE HEARD IN A WHILE!!!! musically the band was blazin, vocals were on point and most importantly the message was on point! and sum of the songs were so simple that an entire church can sing it 2gether and worship together like: let us worship, so amazing, and hallelujah! this cd is fiya! i love all different musical styles so im glad they went in different directions! we all know they can blaze neo soul/hip hop/church music...now they blazin rock better than rock cats...spanky murdered the drums on those rock tunes!

I actually loooooved this album. me & the M.O.M at my church who is also my good friend kinda had a small tiff about our differences. i feel the music was good, most importantly the LYRICS were great! he liked the lyrics very much but didn't feel the album had "worship quality" and it wasn't as "anointed" as the victory album.  :( :'(

This album is just what I needed.  I was a little late getting this album.  However, this is my favorite album.  And I'm not just talking by Tye & G.A.  This is my favorite album ever.  I can put this album on and listen to it all day.  There is not one song that I don't like.  Track 12 - I Made It Through - Certified Banger!  I almost shout everytime I hear that song.  Not only is the music the best I have ever heard.  The message in this album made me go back and think of where I was, where I am, and where God is calling me.  May God bless them for blessing me and I'm sure many others.

What I appreciate most about this cd is that anyone from any part of the globe can find at least one song on it that they like.  Tye is reaching the world, not just his own people, so I can really appreciate his creativy.  I am learning to like Christian country and rock through his album, but tracks #11, #12, and #14 take the cake for me.  "Well Done" is AWESOME......Tye Tribbett and James Hall are head and shoulders above everyone else.....they set the standard.

Oh no, I been a fan of rock music for a loooonnngggg time.  That's one of the reasons I love this album so much, it's so different from the "normal" gospel music that's out now.  I wanted to say it's different from the gospel music put out by us black people, but didn't want to offend.

Yeah, that too.  A lot of "us" are so conditioned to only a few forms of music (gospel, R&B, & rap/hip-hop), that we miss out on precious gems in other forms of music.

Yeah...conditioned is the right word. Maybe that is why I have such a variety of friends...I love all music...Country, Rock, Alternative, Reggae, and especially Classical, mostly the Romantic and some Baroque stuff.

I think the biggest problem is that most of the songs on this CD would be extremely difficult or even impossible to perform in most black churches. To play most of his songs would require a full band with horns, flutes, melodic percussion( i think i heard a marimba on I made it through), guitars, drum machines, and other seldom heard instruments in Gospel music. I mean most of us only have a organ or a piano/keyboard in our church, and small choirs, so songs like Bless the Lord are out of the question.

Tye Tribbett takes Psalms 150 literally!!!!

Yeah i totally agree with this. My church tried to do Bless The Lord...gave up after 5 mins of hearing the song. It is simply too hard to do without a full band. We only have a bassist and 2 keyboards. The guitar parts i cannot do on the keyboard...totally impossible.

Apart from this, his songs are off the chain. The musicianship and level of virtuosity displayed on the DVD is awesome.

My father has the problem that he listen to every cd he buy and discards as "not so good" if it doesn't have songs his choir can do.  The cd is a great listen.  It blesses my soul.  And the good in the hood video is downright hilarious.

I think a lot of choir directors/ P&W leaders have to remember that a lot of these songs on CDs were not meant for choirs to start singing them in church. In fact many of those songs are not practical as P&W songs...they are very complex and hard enough for the musicians to follow, talk less of the congregation.

Honestly, when my P&W leader brought us Tye's Son of Man, immediately i heard the first 2 minutes of the song i KNEW there was no way we cold play it. It required too many instruments, the timing had to be perfect...not to talk of the fact that my skill level is not yet up to Tye's. :)

My father has the problem that he listen to every cd he buy and discards as "not so good" if it doesn't have songs his choir can do.  The cd is a great listen.  It blesses my soul.  And the good in the hood video is downright hilarious.

Well that's the thing... The songs are SO GOOD, that we can only DREAM of doing them!!!! When a lot of us hear a good song, we want to learn it(or at least gather chords or ideas from the song), but it's difficult when you got so many instruments playing at the same time... so I can do is just sit back and imagine myself playing in his band!!!

Bless the Lord is catching on like wildfire. Funny, but on Victory "I will Bless the Lord" was popular too. And Hallelujah would work too

Im just the operator of the gift He gave ;)

I truly believe that any of Tye's songs can be accomplished w/out a band, if u get down to the very basic chords and changes of the song.  It won't sound like the CD, but it can work.  Sometimes, u might have to throw out entire sections of a song and just focus on the part u want to do.  Nothing wrong wit dat rite?

If I were to attempt some Tye songs off the new CD, I would go with "Bless The Lord (Son Of Man)", "Let Us Worship", "Chasing After You", and "Hold On".  But like I said, I would switch up some of the stuff and do it my way.

Sometimes, we get so hung-up on getting stuff 100% exactly like the CD til we don't even try to do the song YOUR way.  Tye ain't there to hear u sing, so why do u care? We really do make things harder than what they are.

Cosign T-Block.

Why do we feel like we gotta get the song 100%. The congregation doesn't know.  :-\
