Title: Cats and Dogs
Post by: J31 on October 23, 2008, 01:06:13 PM
Why do people like cats? Cats don't even really need you.

Dogs are at least needy and love attention.

If I was a Dog

I win one at the fair each year.

...and they die 2-3 days later...JUST when I've bought the food.

Animals + TJ = Disaster.  :-[ :D

I got attacked by an Akita once.  It was my grandmother's.  I do not like big dogs at all... but I love my 8 lb. shih tzu, Savannah!  She is the apple of my eye!  The love of my life!  My road dawg! LOL!!  The center of my universe!  My wheel in the middle of a... oh wait... anyway, you get the picture.  I love my Vannah and my Vannah loves me!

Before I moved to DC, I had 3 cats, then 2 (had to get rid of one).  Cats are just as loyal and caring as dogs are.  Mine were so compassionate.  If you think a cat doesn't need you, try not putting any water out and see what happens.  Better yet, try leaving them in the house alone for days and see what happens.  They need affection and attention, they're just not as needy as dogs.

Shucks, even my turtles required a lot of attention... they start banging on the glass if you walk by too many times without stopping to say hello!  :D :D :D

Cats and dogs are nasty. I could live with one small dog, but anything else than that I cant do. The worst thing is the hair. And I hate when people let cats walk around thier kitchen counters, I dont like coughing up hair balls after I eat.

I looooovvveee cats!!! I had cats all of my life until now. I have a dog now (a cockapoo)and that is my homie. Even though his demand for attention is sometimes very annoying, he is cool and they are not as smart as cats.

My dog can be stuck in a room for hours because he refuses to stick his paw in the crack and pull the door open. I come home from church and he's sitting there, peaking through the crack, Like "Please, get me OUTTA here!!"   :D :D :D idiot

My dog is like that with her crate.  She's as smart as a whip when it comes to anything else, but for some reason, she never seems to realize that all she has to do is push the gate down with almost no force at all, and it will swing open.  She will stay in that crate and cry and beg to get out all day long... The cats, on the other hand, I can put them in a steel-enforced room with a deadbolt and padlock and somehow, they will find a way out!  :D :D :D

And THIS is why I prefer cats. Dogs, unless trained well (and in some instances, it doesn't matter), are DUMB as DOORKNOBS.

With the exception of my parents dog (although, as many times as I visit the house, he still barks like it's the first time he's ever seen me  ::)).

I don't know if they are just spoiled or they are just a little slooow :D  and he always looks so relieved when you push the door open, like "I've been trapped in here forever, how could you do this to me!!"  I do it on purpose sometimes just to see for myself, and the little fluff will just stare at the crack, won't even attempt, just looking like "uuhhh what is this big thing standing in the way of me and my master ?/?"

umm I have watched a cat chase a mouse that it knows is dead.  ?/?
I have watched a cat jump up the side of a wall trying to catch a shadow ::)
I have even watched a cat see a bug or something like a fly 12ft in the air on the wall and the dumb cat keeps jumping up like it is actually going to get the fly :-\

All the while the dog looks at the cat frantic and jumping off the walls and simple walks past the cat as if to say " duh it's not a real mouse, every time you catch it it doesn't bleed or anything"

And you say dogs are dumb?

my second favorite dog I use to have for years but sadly died
They are cool

I feel the same way.  My childhood dog died after I moved away, and I couldn't go through that again, knowing there won't be another just like him.

Also, I am not ready for the responsibility, and I'm never home.  I'd rather acknowledge that, than be like my dumb friend who gets a dog every time they move to a new place, only stays there for like a month and ends up letting the dog run away or trying to get rid it some other way.  I tried to tell her they don't need a dog until they can take care of their kids properly, but she got offended.  Oh well, it was the truth.

I'm actually more scared of cats than big dogs. When I was three, my mom decided to cat sit for a friend while she was out of town. I was looking for a book and stuck my hand under my bed to see if it was under there. I wasn't looking at the time and thinking that what I felt was a sock, I grabbed it. That cat scratched me and left a mark that is still visible today.
I actually have a German Shepherd/ Blue Heeler mix. He's 10 now and used to be a therapy dog for the senior citizens. I've had him since he was 5wks and he has always been chill. He's very smart and protective of the family and kids.

Akita - I love them

I used to have an Akita mixed with White German Shepard.  Beautiful dog and he took care of me.  Couldn't nobody do nothing to me when he was around, not even my other dog.  I also had a boxer mix.  I had to put them both to sleep in 86' because they contracted distemper.  I bought a rottweiler in 96, but then my musical schedule got ridiculous and I couldn't give him the time to raise and train him properly so I wound up taking him back to his brothers and sisters.  His father was 150 lbs.  I hated to take that dog back.

I have been contemplating another dog.  I'm between a rottweiler, a cane corso, a bull mastiff, a minature pinscher, or a Jack Russell terrier.

As for cats, cats have atitudes.  I can't deal with that.  Not from an animal.

Well, I like big dogs, but I'm considering the small ones because of my son.  And his mother had two Chihuahuas, and doesn't like big dogs.  I kinda want to get the Rottie so that they can grow up together, but I don't want flack from his mother.

My dog is crazy because we adopted him
when he was 1 year old.
So he has been in the shelter
since he was a baby, ! think.
So no one teached him how to behave.
We try but no luck. :'(

Although I do see an improvement in his behaviour;
must be because he is gettin older/mature.

I guess I do kinda spoil my dog, but he's a great dog so I don't mind spoiling him every once in a while :) However COMMA I will not buy him clothes.  :D With my dog, you had to be consistent and since he's in the working group, you have to keep him active. With some dogs, you have to make training a consistent pattern and with others you have to  switch it up. Some are so stubborn and take a lot of time to train. I did some research on my dog's mixed breed, including temperament, so I know what I'm dealing with. A dog's environment growing up can also be a factor. You can actually teach an old dog new tricks. I make tricks a fun game and he loves the rewards. ( He's a like a kid in a candy store when we visit the doggy gourmet) :D

I have two cats (my babies). I favor cats more so than dogs. Dogs get on my nerves slobbering all over ya and jumping on ya. My husband has white jerman sheperd which I have nothing to do with. But if I were to have my own dog it would also be an akita or a lab. Probably more so the Lab. But I'm not looking to get one any time soon.

We had to put a lock on our back gate because we had a German Sheperd that knew how to open the gate.  One day I looked out the window and saw some kids teasing him and throwing sticks at him.  The next day I made certain I was mowing the lawn at the time they came by and I purposely didn't put the lock on the gate.  They got to watch him open the gate and walk out.  Never teased him again.

I'm going on demeanors and ease of training.  The Jack Russell is probably the craziest one actually.  If I had to choose today, it would be the Rott hands down.

She has sweaters, dresses, t-shirts, coats (most of which I bought when we moved to DC), jackets, a ballerina outfit, 2-piece skirt outfits... she is better dressed than her mama!

No, but I could imagine.  The German Sheperd I had before Nemo was attacked and bitten by a Shih Tzu.  I'm not joking.  Thurman remembered that and swore out revenge 'til the day he died.  Everytime we walked past the Shih Tzu's house his back hair went up and he was lookin' for him.

Yeah, my Vannah is the type to attack a German Shepherd... as long as he doesn't bark at her.   :D :D :D  Sometimes, I don't think she realizes how small she is.  She will bark and fuss and charge and jump and all that... until the big dog starts to growl or come at her... then all of a sudden, she realizes she's only 8 lbs and way out of her league.  :D :D
