Title: Must Have Gospel Cds
Post by: MykeMyke on October 02, 2009, 09:36:01 AM
Is there a thread like this on here?

If not can we start one?

Cause I don't have a very large gospel collection and would like to expand.

Get some Hezekiah like Hamso stated. Hezekiah IS my collection. If I'm missing a Heze cd, I'm going off!
Gotta have Commissioned. Please get some of their cds.
And the old John P. Kee like DH stated. Not a fan of the new stuff.
Timothy Wright, Fred Hammond, and Derrick Starks.

Ima leave now, cause I can go for awhile. ;D

Fred Hammond, Israel, Hez, Youthful Praise, JP Key, Clark sisters, J Moss, Tye Tribbett.

Those are the essentials!

I really just love all the gospel styles and just try to study a lot of different artist.

Check out Fred Hammonds latest one called Love Unstoppable!
It has a surprisingly nice style and it's just what we have learned what to expect from Fred. A lot of the songs are easy to play and great for worship too.

I got it all over 200 Artist and 3,232 Songs & still counting. BeBe and CeCe "Close To You" is really good. And Gospel Jazz is a must have just for your meditation & enjoyment. All of the Older stuff like Albertina Walker, Dorothy Norwood, James Bignon, Rev. James Moore, Rev. Timothy Wright, Karen Clark-Sheard, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Twinkie Clark-Terrel, and the list goes on and on. I got my hands on the Clark Sisters Albums from when they first recorded all the way up until now. They were Awesome then just like they are now. All Gospel music is off the chain to me. There are some Artist I can't get with but I listen to anyway cause I'm a musician. Music can be life changing. Listen to it all you never know what you might come across.

You said all music right?

Jimmy Smith [Old skool jazz organist] , Jonathan Butler [Contemporary, R&B], Micheal Buble [?], Benjamin Dube [ South Africa, Gospel] , Andrea Crouch, David Benoit [ Contemp jazz & modern classics], Richard Clayderman [?] , & my favorite these days- the Mighty Clouds of Joy [Power album]..some "classical" stuff there.

& of course all that's been mentioned above ;)

How could I leave out Celine Dion [Needs no intro!] & David Koz (another living saxophonist legend for me)

This is my first post, but I feel I should give a little background. I'm the MOM of a church with an African-American pastor. He has made it very clear that we are to focus on a very diverse musical set during P&W that will allow people of all backgrounds and ethnicity to find comfort and experience an connection with God. With that being said, my challenge (and a great one it is) has been to venture outside of the normal "black church" artists to find new music and be very diverse. If you're a MOM that's looking to stretch your congregation and freshen up your selection, here are some sleepers that haven't been mentioned. We do other songs as well for P&W, but this posting is just for full CDs. These are overall picks that will bless you.

Myron Butler & Levi (Especially his last 2 cds. You could do about 5 songs from every CD for P&W)
Anthony Evans
Carenso (I Won't Turn Back - new artist to amazon but is on CD Baby. Found him on accident but he's awesome! See my comment on Amazon)
Chris Tomlin (we do a few of his songs for P&W)
Trent Cory
Jonathan Nelson
Rev. Bruce Parham
Tedd Winn (has an awesome rendition of "Moving Forward")
William McDowell

Ummm... I think that's about it for now. Holla!
