Title: ENCOURAGEMENT
Post by: Hasmonean1 on October 05, 2009, 01:15:37 PM
Post scriptures, songs, videos, or anything else that would give encouragement to the body.

Encouragement: Our Gift to the Next Generation

Written By: Dr. Grant McClung, as a member of the Church Of God International Council

I grew up in the western United States, a region of wide open spaces, massive ranches, and extensive farms. It was, at least in my childhood imagination (helped along in a large part by Hollywood images), a place captured in the idyllic words of a Cowboy tune, commonly regarded as the anthem of the American West:

Home, home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day

Since those childhood days, life's realities have taught me that not all words are encouraging, not all days are cloudless, and most endeavors are met with obstacles and those "special" individuals who seem especially able to locate the negative in every situation!

In retrospect, we smile when we recount that:

• After Fred Astaire's first screen test, a 1933 memo from the MGM testing director said: "Can't act. Slightly bald. Can dance a little." Astaire kept that memo over the fireplace in his Beverly Hills mansion (we don't remember the name of the testing director!).

• An "expert" said of legendary football coach Vince Lombardi, "He possesses minimal football knowledge. Lacks motivation."

• Louisa May Alcott, the author of the famous Little Women, was advised by her family to forsake writing and find work as a servant or seamstress.

• Beethoven handled the violin awkwardly and preferred playing his own compositions instead of improving his technique. His teacher called him hopeless as a composer.

• The teacher of famous opera singer Enrico Caruso said Caruso had no voice at all and could not sing.

• Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper for "lacking ideas." He went bankrupt several times before building Disneyland.

Though there have been well-known individuals such as these, who persevered in the face of resistance, doubt, and insurmountable odds, there are multiplied millions who have accomplished much in life because they were encouraged by others. Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872 - 1904), considered the virtual father of black American poetry, captured it like this:

"Encouraged"

Because you love me I have much achieved, Had you despised me then I must have failed; But since I knew you trusted and believed, I could not disappoint you and so prevailed.

Encouragement is a natural part of human existence - certainly a central focus of parenting. Every year it is estimated that there are some 200 million Mother's Day cards sold in the United States - a recognition of the encouragement of mothers. The Apostle Paul used the imagery of a father when he told his friends in Thessalonica:

For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting, and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory (1 Thessalonians 2.11-12).

Most definitions of "encourage" and "encouragement" stress that to encourage is to inspire with courage, hope, or resolution. Some older versions use the definition "to hearten" which literally means "to put heart back into someone." This is particularly relevant in light of soul-searching times, described by Jesus as times when "men's courage will fail completely" (Luke 21.26 Phillips Translation).

In scripture, encouragement carries the emphasis of "urging forward, persuading, counseling with, and stimulating" others in the discharge of their duties and obligations as believers - especially in the face of harsh opposition, resistance, and violence. Scripture directs us to, "...encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you will be hardened by sin's deceitfulness" (Hebrews 3.13). Early Christians, facing stress, persecution, and obstacles were counseled, "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10.25).

The Bible reveals our Heavenly Father as an encourager: "You hear, oh Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry" (Psalm 10.17). God has designated encouragement as one of the spiritual gifts in the body of Christ. Alongside the more (supposedly) "prominent" gifts such as prophesying, teaching, governing, there appears the spiritual gift of encouragement (Romans 12.8).

How then, do I extend encouragement to my peers, to those I influence, and especially to the next generation of leaders? I recommend at least five practical ways to encourage others by: standing with them; speaking a word to (or for) them; showing them a concrete act of encouragement; praying (supplication) for them; seeing the future with them.

1. Stand with them

Into the face of a hostile crowd, the Apostle Peter stood up to preach. When he did, there was the movement of eleven other men who stood up with him. I like how the Phillips translation of this Day of Pentecost event describes it, "Then Peter, with the Eleven standing by him" (Acts 2.14). One man may have done the verbal preaching but eleven others were standing in unity and solidarity with him. The eleven "encouragers" beside Peter were basically saying to the crowd, "we believe and affirm this man and what he is preaching. Take up stones to stone him and you will have to stone us all!" By standing with others we express our commonality in calling, commitment, and collaboration.

2. Speak a word to them/for them

As children we sometimes repeated the schoolyard chant, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." Words, however, do hurt. Thank God, however, that encouraging words also heal, help, and give heart. That is why the scripture admonishes us to speak to one another:

"Therefore encourage each other with these words" (1 Thessalonians 4.18).

"Preach the word, be prepared in season and out of season, correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction" (2 Timothy 4.2).

"He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it" (Titus 1.9).

How often has my perspective been changed or my spirit lifted by someone taking even a brief moment to speak something significant into my life. Novelist Charles Dickens reminds us (through one of his literary characters) that, "No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else."

3. Show encouragement with a concrete sign or action

Recently my wife and I attended the dedication ceremony of the second child of one of our missionary couples. Typically, in visiting congregations we are there to say something, i.e. to speak. This time, however, our ministry was that of presence. Being there said to this young couple, "we value you and your friendship; your family is important to us." St. Francis of Assisi gave his colleagues the now- famous instruction, "Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words." We often encourage as much, or even more, by what we show than by what we say. Encouragement must often be seen before it is heard. A card, a special gift, our presence to help on a work project, sitting with someone through grief, a financial offering - the list goes on and on.

4. Supplication: Pray for them (and let them know it)

Most everyone has a file or a special place full of meaningful letters, mementos, and memorabilia. Mine has a handwritten note from a former professor, one of the evangelical world's best known missiologists. Not long after leaving seminary to start my own missionary service, I received a note from him in the mail, written on behalf of the wider group of colleagues that had impacted my missiological journey. "Today," he wrote, "in faculty meeting we remembered you in prayer." Paul's letters are full of reminders to his ministry partners how he remembers them and prays for them. Among my favorites is:

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, ...(Philippians 1.3-5)

5. See the future together

The completion of Paul's reminder to his Philippian partners tells them that they have a future and he sees it together with them:

"... being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1.6).

Other leaders, especially younger colleagues, need to have someone get up on the mountaintop with them and look toward the horizon together, appreciating and affirming the vision that God is giving the next generation. They need to have someone show them how it looks to finish well and express confidence that it can be done again tomorrow as well as yesterday.

Proverbs 17:17
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.  When you are going through lean on that special brother or sister for they were born for the adversity.  God has commissioned them on your behalf to help you make it.  Don't be too proud to use the help God has provided.

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest! if you must; but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up, though the pace seems slow;
You might succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup.
And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit;
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

I didn't write this but am passing it on to everyone.  It's some good word.

I speak to those who have encountered recent situations and circumstances that have set up unseen roadblocks. You seem to have gotten stuck and do not feel like you can advance. This is because you have allowed these things to cause you to see yourself as overwhelmed and failing. But, I say to you, this is not the truth. This is a tactic of the enemy to frustrate and even embarrass you. Rise above your feelings of being blocked into the realm of the spirit and resist this attack, and purpose to move ahead, says the Lord.

Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Spirit of Prophecy Bulletin   Spirit of Prophecy Bulletin SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by Marsha Burns -- 2009:  Beloved, I have gone before you to make crooked places straight and rough places smooth. It may not seem like it, but the fact is that it would be virtually impossible for you to navigate this spiritual terrain without My help. I am not surprised by the things that challenge you, nor am I worried that you will not come through, for I am with you to bring you to new heights. The path is narrow, and there is no other way to arrive at this level of spiritual maturity than the way you have come, says the Lord. Trust Me and keep pressing on. Isaiah 40:4 Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough places smooth.

Live in courage  because it is ment for you.

What is a Friend?

What is a friend and what does he do
Does he put up with your mess and allow you to be you
Is he friendly in all aspects of life?
Does he understand your misery and strife?
Does he give respect like the seasons that change?
Understanding his role with nothing to gain
Does he hold your hand when you begin to fall?
Giving words of encouragement to help you stand tall
Does he act silly and make you smile
Making your pain seem worthwhile
A friend is there when you need to be heard
Listening attentively to your every word
Together you laugh, mourn, and cry
Retaining precious memories of years gone by
Hopefully he’s one on whom you can depend
One who’s there through thick and thin.

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by Marsha Burns:
I experienced a prophetic enactment in which there was a single strand of a spider's web about 3 feet in front of me, and instead of pulling it down I chose to ignore it.  Then, within the space of about half an hour it was in my face.  And, I heard the Lord say, " You we need to be pay attention and be aware of the work of the enemy and pull it down as soon as you see it or it will be in your face.  2 Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.

Beloved,  I am relieving you of obligations that have kept you from walking in the liberty of My Spirit.  And, I am removing the guilt that others have imposed upon you that kept you from the freedom that I wish for My children.  This is a new day and even the beginning of a new era.  I will lead you on the path of liberation in this season if you are willing to let go of the limitations and bondages of the past, says the Lord.  Trust Me!  Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Stay encouraged and give the Lord thanks despite the hard times because his mercy endures thru all times.

Psalm 136

1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.

3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.

4 To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.

5 To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever.

6 To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever.

7 To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever:

8 The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever:

9 The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever.

10 To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever:

11 And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endureth for ever:

12 With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for his mercy endureth for ever.

13 To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever:

14 And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endureth for ever:

15 But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endureth for ever.

16 To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever.

17 To him which smote great kings: for his mercy endureth for ever:

18 And slew famous kings: for his mercy endureth for ever:

19 Sihon king of the Amorites: for his mercy endureth for ever:

20 And Og the king of Bashan: for his mercy endureth for ever:

21 And gave their land for an heritage: for his mercy endureth for ever:

22 Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endureth for ever.

23 Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever:

24 And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever.

25 Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever.

26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND
by Marsha Burns
November 16, 2009:  As, I waited in the presence of the Lord, I found myself craving routine and a sense of stability in circumstances. But, the Lord broke in and said, "I am still shaking many of your places of comfort because they represent areas where you have become stale and religious. I want to bring a fresh wind that will stir renewed interest and excitement in the work that I am doing as opposed to what you are doing! Too many of My people have taken great pride in believing they possess special knowledge, which they use to elevate themselves in the Kingdom. But, I'm looking for those with humble, open, and hungry hearts. They are the ones I will use mightily in this next season. Let My wind blow and let go of thoughts of routine and comfort. Arise to a new level of adventure and expectation."
James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Drinking from my saucer

I've never made a fortune, and it's probably too late now.
But I don't worry about that much, I'm happy anyhow
And as I go along life's way,
I'm reaping better than I sowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

Haven't got a lot of riches,
and sometimes the going's tough
But I've got loving ones all around me,
and that makes me rich enough.
I thank GOD for his Blessings,
and the Mercies HE's bestowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

I remember times when things went wrong,
My faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke,
and the sun peeped through again.

So LORD, help me not to gripe,
about the tough rows I have hoed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

If GOD gives me strength and courage,
When the way grows steep and rough.
I'll not ask for other blessings,
I'm already Blessed enough...

And may I never be too busy,
to help others bear their loads..
Then I'll keep drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

When we think of how many people in this world have it worse than we do, we realize just how BLESSED we really are.

Don't waste your life in doubts and fears: spend yourself on the work before you, well assured that the right performance of this hour's duties will be the best preparation for the hours or ages that follow it.

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by MARSHA BURNS

Beloved, refuse to allow your circumstances or emotional responses to your current situation to pull you away from the truth of My word.  Let the Word be your plumb line and truth your foundation.  And, set a watch for confusion, for it is an attack and temptation from the enemy.  As you have read, I am not the author of confusion.  Seek me in the simplicity of a pure heart, and I will bring clarity and peace in the midst of chaos, says the Lord.

1 Corinthians 14:33
For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

January 29, 2010:  The enemy has released an attack against you to press you into service in ways that I have not called you, says the Lord.  And,  if you refuse, he will heap up condemnation against you to try to force you to be misled and distracted.  Recognize this onslaught for what it is and stand firm without remorse or regret.  This will be a strong and important test of your discernment.  Quiet your thoughts and emotions so that you can know in every situation whether or not you have the witness of the Spirit with your spirit as to what you must do.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit...

Psalm 91

1  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4  He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5  Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6  Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7  A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8  Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9  Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

The Lord dropped this nugget to me while on facebook and I want to pass it along to you:

Do not grow weary in well-doing. Many of us here on LGM are working multiple jobs, being a single parent raising children, working hard in the classroom and just going through this journey called life. There are easy days and there are tough days but we should not give up because everything that is going on right now will eventually pay off at the end of the day. Every hour laboring in whatever you are doing will pay off afterwhile and right now. Even if the road gets tough you keep going because when it's all said and done God will reward your faithfulness.

This is why I always say that we should be a light of encouragement to each other everyday. You never know (and I know people get tired of hearing me say this) what people go through with on a daily basis. This is why one smile, one hug, one word of encouragement, one effort to make someone smile could be the difference in the person giving up and the person continuing inspite of. Let us love one another unconditionally through hugs, actions, support groups, correction and smiles. :)

I love you all!  :)

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND
by Marsha Burns
April 13, 2010:  When you find yourself pushing hard, you must also take the time necessary to rest.  Your refreshing comes from quieting your soul and seeking to be in My presence, says the Lord.  Unburden yourself and come for a time of restoration and healing of body, soul and spirit.  I will breathe new life into you when you take the time and make the effort to come.   Acts 3:19  Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.

Encouraging words to live by as taken from "Ask Nessa".

....... But in my saved life, the biggest one has been "What should I be doing right now--what is God's perfect will for me right now?"  That question takes on many forms like, "What should I be learning from this adverse situation?" or, "How do I change my attitude to line up with what glorifies God even though I'm unhappy with whatever is going on" or, "What are some small doable steps I can take to turn this thing around and get it going in the right direction?"

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by MARSHA BURNS

If you will allow it, I will remove the pressure that creates stress.  I would have you move with Me in the same way that the eagle effortlessly soars on the thermals, doing what it was created to do.  I would have you to yield to the moving of My Spirit with the joy and ease of doing what you have been created for.  It is only when you give in to anxiety and operate under the burden of worry that you lose your joy and peace.  I will relieve you if you will completely put your trust in Me, says the Lord.  Let Me lift you up.

Psalms 86:4 Rejoice the soul of Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED

In John 14, Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Jesus the Way to the Father

5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Let not your heart be troubled
Fighting within and without
Let not your heart be troubled
Evil moving around and about
Let not your heart be troubled
Believe in God, Believe in Me
Let not your heart be troubled
Preparing A home for to see
Let not your heart be troubled
I'll come again, count on Me
Let not your heart be troubled
I'm waiting, for you to greet
Let not your heart be troubled
My Holy Council you will meet
Let not your heart be troubled
My Grace sways all sin away
Let not your heart be troubled
By faith I accept Him today

Amen

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND
by Marsha Burns
July 29, 2011:  Discern your point of stress, and apply faith and trust in Me, says the Lord.  Stress comes when you lack understanding and need wisdom.  Ask for what you need, and I will give it.  Refuse to be afraid of failure, for I will lead you through even the most difficult maze to attain your goal.  But, you must rely on Me for guidance and direction.  Do not fall back on trusting yourself or your own good ideas.  Seek Me instead.
John 15:16 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you."

Power to Live

You are much more powerful, creative and effective than you give yourself credit for being. You are worthy of the best in life because you are able to give your very best to each day.

Start that fortunate process in motion. Open yourself to the positive possibilities of this day and work to bring the best of them to reality.

Whatever good, valuable and meaningful things you can imagine, you can create. Though it requires effort and commitment, you are absolutely capable of making it happen.

Remind yourself that this moment is not merely happening to you. It is happening through you.

You can make it happen in a way that brings great richness to your world and fulfillment to your life. You can choose to be a positive force by directing your potent energy into those things that truly matter.

Right now, you have great power to do great things. Step forward in truth, sincerity, and authenticity, and put that power to use.

Encouraging words from Chruchy over in the book club.

I want to encourage us to keep each other encouraged in our walk. Twitter with my accountability buddies is blessing me tonight because we're somewhat being transparent. Our struggles brought us closer to God. Living for Christ brings liberty. It doesn't mean everything is settled but it means that we have someone who is on our corner. Let's keep each other encouraged as we daily deal with battles of our flesh, mind and heart trying to avoid Satan's plan and purpose.

Prayer of Application: Lord, thank you for being who you are in our lives. Give us the passion and desire to feed our hearts and minds with your wisdom, instruction and insight. Allow us to stay away from anything that will get us off the path that you've desired for us. We commit ourselves to have all of our armor in this spiritual battle! Lord we know who the real enemy is and we declare that he is defeated in the name of Jesus....Amen!

I recounted to you my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees.  Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders.  My soul is weary with sorrow strengthen me according to your word.

Psalm 119:26-28

It’s hard to stay positive when you live a life of chronic challenges.  It’s easy to think there is nothing positive to find at all.

I so appreciate the Psalmists words “My soul is weary with sorrow.”  It reminds me of the saying that one is not simply tired - but bone tired.  Yes, sometimes it does indeed feel my soul itself is weary of the “keeping on.”

Yet, somehow I manage to muddle through.  I find so much strength in Scripture.  How interesting it is to me that this verse talks about God strengthening us according to His word - and His world.

It also tells us to meditate on His wonders.  It can be so difficult to miss the wonders of God as we walk this difficult path.  It seems the more difficult it gets, the more I appreciate the small wonders: A butterfly flying past my window.  Waking up feeling pain-free.  Seeing the joy on my grandson’s face as he learns to read.

These are things I would have not even noticed in my former life.  Sometimes I think we depend on doctors and medicines to make us “all better.”  (I’m not saying they are not important!)  But I wonder if sometimes we overlook the other things we can do.

We can look back and remember the good in our life.  We can think about the wonders of this world.  And we can go to His word for strength.  I find that many times, people who belittle the idea of finding our hope and strength in God’s word - are those who have read little of it.

Even with our chronic challenges, we can still live in a wonder-filled world - if we only look, if we only read.

It’s there for the taking, dear readers!

Will you look to Him today?

Hey gentlemen ... and roughmen

when that fine seductive lady who is not your wife comes calling at 2AM wanting you to come over. Read the following verse before you give an answer

proverbs the 7th chapter 25-27

25 Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,
      Do not stray into her paths;
26 For she has cast down many wounded,
And all who were slain by her were strong men.
27 Her house is the way to hell,
Descending to the chambers of death.

If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
In the day of adversity we are apt to faint, to droop and be discouraged, to desist from our work, and to despair of relief. "It is a sign that thou art not a person of any resolution, and firmness of thought, any consideration, any faith (for that is the strength of a soul), if thou canst not bear up under an afflictive change of condition."  Be of good courage therefore, and God shall strengthen thy heart.

JESUS SAVES

Just when you think you can't take anymore.
Every solution has been met with a closed door.
Sickness, finances, and disappointments soar
Until they appear larger than life and your spirit is at war.
Silently, you say a prayer, unworthy as you are.

Secretly you pray to your Father from whom you've strayed so far
Abba, Father, if I confess your name, will you save a wretch like me?
Victory. Can that be mine? Can you hear this sinner's plea?
Even though I don't deserve the blessings that you shower
Save this wretched sinner from the gates of hell this hour.

I cannot repay the price that you've paid.
I cannot undo the sins that made me the enemy's slave.
But you can throw my sins away into the forgotten sea
You can make me whole again and give me the victory.

So, I thank you, Father, Jesus
I'll forever praise Your name.
I'll forever serve you, Father
Not for fortune or for fame
But, because you saved a wretch like me
And forever changed my name.

HIS GLORIOUS GRACE

Praise be to God
For every spiritual blessing,
For He will uphold us
Through every trial and testing.
He's blessed us from
His heavenly place,
With blessings filled with
His Glorious Grace.
In accordance with the riches
Of God's grace
We have received,
We can rely on
All of His promises,
And in these
Always believe.

I John 4:4  Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

The enemy is trying and will continue trying to trip you up.  Don't be dismayed because his every effort will fail.  The Holy Ghost on the inside keeps you many steps ahead in all situations.  This is true to the point that it confounds them that your reaction is not as they thought it would be.  You are expected to be in one place when the Lord leads you to another. The enemy has already fell and will fall for the very last time long before you come close to falling in such a manner.  His end will not be yours for should you fall there is redemption, reconciliation, and restoration.  Remember that no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Be Blessed In Jesus Name

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by MARSHA BURNS

Encourage yourself, says the Lord.  Rise up and establish yourself in faith that I will bring you through every situation that has the potential of bringing you down in discouragement.  Ask, and I will give you wisdom and show you what must be done.  I will strengthen you in your weakest moment.  I am with you, and I will not forsake you.  Put your entire trust in Me to rescue you from even the most dire of situations and lift you up to new heights.  Do not be afraid!

2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Okay, I didn't cry, but it was a good read.

But my "Laylabrain" was taking me all over the place, like why did these parents take over the creative part of the boy's project when part of the assignment was to use his imagination? ?/? :-\ :D (sorry, that's just where my brain took me *shrug*)

But yeah, it blessed me. Especially this: "The Barnes Notes Commentary refers to the meaning of Hebrews 3:4 in this way: "Every family must have a founder; every dispensation an author; every house a builder. There must be someone, therefore, over all dispensations...." And that Someone is God.

The theological definition of the word 'dispensation' means "the divine ordering of the affairs of the world; an appointment, arrangement, or favor, as by God."

God is arranging and re-arranging our lives in accordance with His will. Step-by-step, day-by-day, and with each circumstance we face. He is constructing a dwelling place for His Presence within us.

What comfort it brings to know that in the same way my husband had a clear picture of what he planned to build, God has a holy vision of the divine masterpiece He is building in our lives. Although we may not understand or like the building process, we can trust our Builder and know that He is always looking out for our best."

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by MARSHA BURNS

Be aware that discontentment will open the door for a seducing spirit, which will take you to places physically, spiritually and emotionally that you really do not want to go.  The plan of the enemy is to get you out of the flow of My Spirit and to distract you from maintaining spiritual vitality.  This is a time when you must make a supreme effort to be about the Father's business, says the Lord.

1 Timothy 6:6  Now godliness with contentment is great gain.

In What Are You Choosing To Believe?
What You Believe Determines What You Overcome.-Mike Murdock

You ever wonder why so many people never see God move in their lives or why they always experience more failure than they do success? Well, beside their being a spiritual root cause, it is because most people believe more in the possibilities of things going wrong than they do in things going right.

Have you ever been called into your bosses office and immediately thought, " Oh boy! This can't be good"! When in reality they called you in to compliment you on a job well done or to give you a promotion. Okay, need another example, okay I have one. Men,  and women, how about when your husband, or significant other says, " Baby, we need to talk". What do you immediately think? Do you think, Okay cool?" Or Do you think, sigh...here we go again, what did I do this time?"

The majority of people would pick the latter. Why is that. Why is that as believers we automatically gravitate towards the negative thoughts or emotions?  If you are sick and you are believing more in the sickness than you do in being healed from the sickness then guess what, you are likely to NEVER be healed! Likewise men & woman who always say that there are no good men or woman out there! I am good by myself. Guess what? Most likely you will NEVER find a mate and always be by yourself because you believe more in the negative than you do in the positive.

So I ask you, what are you, from this point on, going to choose to believe? It could be the deciding factor in whether you become free or remain in bondage!

Psalm 73

1 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Be not weary in well doing for in due season you shall reap if you faint not.

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by MARSHA BURNS

Beloved, position yourself to be renovated, for I tell you honestly that old things that are still relevant to your walk with Me will be upgraded to more completely express spiritual reality.  You will be revitalized and repositioned to fulfill My purposes in your life.  The things that have become useless or irrelevant will be phased out and will no longer rob you of your attention and focus on current spiritual activity, says the Lord.  Do not be afraid to let go of the past in order to be unencumbered from things that have been a burden.

Psalms 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

Don't be troubled by your troubles but rather trouble your troubles or the spirit thereof. (The meaning could be quite subjective yet profound)

II Corinthians 4:8-10

8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

Blessed to Be a Blessing

Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
- Psalm 35:27

It's not God's will for you to be in lack and poverty. He wants you to prosper in every area of your life which includes your finances. You're blessed to be a blessing. How can you be a blessing to others if you have nothing to give? Allow wealth to come to you and flow through you so others can be blessed and encouraged that God is a Provider.

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

Question: "What is the gift of encouragement?"

Answer: The gift of encouragement or exhortation is found in Paul’s list of gifts in Romans 12:7–8. The word translated “encourage” or “exhortation” is the Greek word paracletos, or “paraclete,” which basically means “to call to one’s side.”

Paracletos can have several meanings, including “exhort,” “urge,” “encourage,” and “comfort.” All of these make up the gift of encouragement. For example, Paul often urged and exhorted his readers to act on something he wrote. A good example is Romans 12:1–2, where Paul urges the Romans to present their bodies to God as living sacrifices. By doing this, they would know and understand God’s will.

Interestingly, when Jesus spoke to His disciples in the upper room, He spoke of the Holy Spirit, as “Helper” or “Comforter” (John 14:16, 26; 15:26), which is why the Holy Spirit is referred to as the Paraclete. The ministry of the Holy Spirit was important to Jesus and to us. A person with the gift of encouragement can use this gift in both a public and a private setting. It can be seen in counseling, discipleship, mentoring, and preaching. The body of Christ is built up in faith as a result the ministry of those with the gift of encouragement.

The gift of encouragement differs from the gift of teaching in that it focuses on the practical aspects of the Bible. Whereas one with the gift of teaching focuses on the meaning and content of the Word, along with accuracy and application, one with the gift of encouragement focuses on the practical application of the Word. He or she can relate to others, both in groups and individually, by understanding their needs and sympathizing with them. This person can help another person move from pessimism to optimism.

Probably the best example of one with the gift of encouragement is Barnabas who is described as “the son of encouragement” (Acts 4:36). We see Barnabas in Acts 13:43 encouraging the believers to continue in the grace of God. In Acts 15:36–41, Paul and Barnabas had a disagreement over John Mark’s involvement in their ministry. John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia. Barnabas was desirous of taking him with them, but Paul was not. While we do not know the exact words spoken, it seems very likely that Barnabas believed John Mark had potential in ministry, and he encouraged Paul to give him a second chance. Paul and Barnabas separated, John Mark going with Barnabas, but we see later that John Mark proved himself faithful, no doubt through the help of Barnabas and his gift of encouragement (2 Timothy 4:11). This is the result of the gift of encouragement; others are helped and become more effective for Christ.

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND by MARSHA BURNS

August 25, 2014:  It's not the end of the book, but there are chapters in your life that are about to close.  Do what is necessary to bring closure to areas of your life that have not only been unproductive, but have also been painful.  Now is the time to break free into the liberty that will be necessary before you can move forward.  Do so with confidence, says the Lord, for I am with you.   .

Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.".

Pure ministry in song.   This is a young brother is indeed a giant being used in this generation.  We of the older generation often say it ain't as good as it use to be but this song is as good if not better than most others I've heard.

I like the way the Brother turns it up at 1:45 and 2:35.   This is a lyrically rich song.

June 25, 2015:  Quiet your soul and be sensitive to My leading, for I will bring you by a way that you would never have imagined.  You have personal resources, talent and gifts, that you have barely tapped.  I will give you opportunities to use what I have given you to bless and encourage others, says the Lord.  The world is full of darkness, but you must allow My light to shine in and through you. .

Matthew 5:14-15 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.".

It's all Good.

Genesis 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

I've recently experienced encouragement through discouragement, motivation through denigration.  When the enemy uses people to speak against us, the weapon does not prosper because "it's all good".  When they throw lemons WE make lemonade.  When they curse us WE turn it into a blessing.  So let the enemy know one way or the other I will be blessed.  Whether it be through true encouragement or negativity thrown my way.  It is the Lord who strengthen US and it is indeed ALL GOOD.

These were my early days encouragement songs.  They popped back into my spirit recently and have the same great power to encourage.  I don't know if many of these commercial songs will have the same type of saying power.

JUNE 2020

SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND
by Marsha Burns

June 16, 2020:  Many of you, My people, are feeling unloved and rejected.  Allow My love to surround, permeate, and lift you up.  I love and care for you above and beyond what you can understand; it is a love that is eternal.   Let love be perfected in you and pour out of you towards one another.  Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Happiness is your responsibility. If you depend or wait for other people to make you happy you will always be disappointed. Byron Pulsifer, Responsibility for Happiness

Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go,
just remember how far you have come.

Helping others, encouraging others, are often acts of kindness that have more meaning than you may realize.
