Title: MIDI programming

Has anyone who has a midi keyboard connected to a computer ever delve into midi programming as like in computer programming for software on a computer.

I have a midi keyboard and I can program it to do MIDI type operations and I want to know if anybody has at least dealt with this side of the interface and what resources you may have used to get a better understanding in employing it.  I have a few web links via Google (and they look like web basic pre-2001 or 56k dial up) and want to know if anybody have any links they may have that gives a up to date approach if any.
