Yall are going to get sick of me saying this but I would love to suggest "Battlefield of the mind" by Joyce Meyer. ;D

I recently read a Sherri Lewis novel, "My Soul Cries Out". Interesting issues...
You have to read the sequel "Selling My Soul" :o
Suggestion from Under13:

I second that suggestion.
It's for either fiction or non-fiction... just no sports and no sci-fi.
:D j/k.
I'm thinking that as long as there are a group of folks who want to read a book together - whether fiction or non, we can make it a book selection.
Does there have to be only one selection per month? There might be others who want to do a fiction book. while others are doing the nonfiction book.
If there's a book you'd like to read and discuss, post it here so we can see if anyone is interested... it might help if you post a link for purchase and perhaps a brief summary or review of the book. If you're interested in sci-fi and whatnot, you may find a few other folks who want to read and discuss the newest Stephen King book with you. *shrug*

it is a short book, read it in one night but still profound
I gotta get that. Its in my amazon cart, along with 50 other books that I dont have money for. lol
I think it would be cool to do Rich Dad Poor Dad. There was a lot of stuff I agreed with, and some I didnt, but it really changed the way I thought about money and my career.

U13?
Are you in the USA? can you just go to the public library? If you get it I'll read it with you. A coworker of mine has the book so maybe I can borrow it from him.
gotta keep my expenses down no point in buying a book I'm only going to read once or twice.
Of the books you've recommended (and the ones you haven't), which one or two got you to see some things (like your belief that when people don't succeed they don't have anyone to blame but themselves) from that particular perspective?
I can send you RDPD on pdf, but any library should have it. Its been out for a long time. I think it would be really good for you since you always have good ideas about products and stuff. Its well worth the $5.
Cool! So is the guest house your dog house? :D:D
Looking forward to hearing your other idea.

Can someone list that book TJ was talking about? Also, Britt how are you doing with the book you was starting to read?
Huh?! Whachu talkin bout?! ?/?
I'm kidding. I'm on chapter.........umm.......4?! Yeah, 4.
I read his book called The Preacher's son and it was really good, but I havent read first lady
We can start a discussion thread if there are any parts or themes y'all wanna talk about.+1
I read so many novels that I really would have to skim through it again to remember what happened in it, but I'm willing.
I just remembered what it was. It was about a woman whose mother had died when she was young, she was raised by her father who was a pastor. She herself was a preacher, but she didn't get much play at her church bc of the woman preacher issue. Her father was going to retire so she expected she would inherit the pastorate, but he decided to give it to a man. That man turned out to be her ex, whose wife had recently passed away leaving him to raise their little daughter alone.
They started dating and blah blah blah... it was a decent read, just not enough to make me want to read another one like it.
Yall are going to get sick of me saying this but I would love to suggest "Battlefield of the mind" by Joyce Meyer. ;D
I don't have a specific suggestion, but I'd like for our next book to be something light and upbeat. I want to laugh a little.
Is this the book you are talking about? This one. It's not too heavy either. My husband even read this book....so it has to be good. My husband HATES too much drama....
"Battlefield of the mind devotional : 100 insights that will change the way you think 1st ed. "
Or is it this one?
"Battlefield of the mind : winning the battle in your mind "
well never mind it doesn't matter no copies are available at my local library
one last thing at u13, i'm gonna study those $ books. thanks for the tip/
I'm with that.
I do want to get started on the Dave Ramsay book, but I can do a novel at the same time.
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell (how people succeed in life)
IRT Sundown Towns, never even heard of it but that's my kind of book. I would LOVE to read that.
Has anyone read this before? http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Life-Coach-Learn-Best/dp/0785261907 (http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Life-Coach-Learn-Best/dp/0785261907)
Couple more...
"Think" by John Piper (The Life of the mind and the love of God) <--- great book to study. It's DEEP.
Are we gonna do the Dave Ramsay book?? I'm so ready.
And is anyone gonna pick a novel?
Are y'all waiting for me?? I hope not. :-\
I could "try" to pick a novel. Who is Dave Ramsay and what book is it?
Ok, this is a Carl Weber book that just came out this year.
If you've read First Lady, you'll pretty much already know all the characters.

I read First Lady a long time ago...I may need to read a description to remember. I'm about to order Choir Director now. I'll read from my Kindle App.
This is exciting!
I was hoping Brittany would follow through. :-\
I guess I'll have to do it. I'll post something by Monday. I'm thinking like 2 weeks? That'll give us enough time to get and read it.
Just started FIRST LADY tonight - giving me insight into motives + church politics...
That was a good book. I remember it now. Do you plan on reading Choir Director too?
Umm.....can we suggest books of the Bible as well???? I'm kinda into that now a days lol.
Have been reading thru Galatians...like the book of Ruth, short but sweet love story...
Yeah, I wanna suggest us reading aa book of the Bible after we've read the novel. If everyone is on board. I don't wanna hog up the suggestions lol.
Cool with me. We're going to need some Bible after that novel. :D

Just to clarify, you don't have to wait until one book discussion is finished to start another book discussion. As we discussed earlier in this thread (I think U13 raised the question), we can have several discussion threads active simultaneously since this isn't a typical book club. What makes ours unique (and better, IMO) is that we are "fluid" in that we can have 3 or 4 (or 34) "clubs" going on at the same time. We can join whichever book discussions we choose. Someone who may not want to read "Choir Director" may be interested in going through the Proverbs or one of Paul's epistles. Someone who doesn't want to do a Bible book may want to join a different discussion.
There's nothing stopping us/you from starting a new "club" whenever anyone expresses interest in joining you. Where 2 or 3 are gathered together... :D
Yes! I love Proverbs. A bible study I try to watch on streaming is studying Philippians right now. Oooo it's great! But I'm definitely in.
Oh, well... I'm down then!
How would the discussion go, though? ?/?
Why don't you take a look at the examples in the Pagan Christianity thread and the Choir Director thread and see which of those formats would work best. If neither, come up with a format that will work, post it, and go.
Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.
For some reason, I can never finish that book.
The Grace of God (http://www.amazon.com/The-Grace-of-God-ebook/dp/B0044XV5YO/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1322492504&sr=1-1) by Andy Stanley
I'm over 60% through it and the past few chapters have changed my outlook on EVERYTHING. My walk with God, my relationships with my wife, daughter, family, and friends, and God Himself.

Seems interesting
What about Mere Christianity during the summer?
I really struggle with Watchman Nee. :-[
I remember years and years ago, one of my mentors highly recommended one of his books (don't remember the title, but I still have the book). It was small and very few pages, but the language barrier was too great for me to overcome. Ever since then, I've been really reluctant to try another one of his books. Every time I see one in the bookstore or on someone's shelf, I'll flip through it and feel that same brain-tied feeling I felt with that first one I tried. :(
But I'm willing to do Mere Christianity over the summer, if you guys want to. I still haven't started The Grace of God and about 5 others that I bought... just sitting on the shelf waiting for me to finish school, I guess. :D
