Title: Assemble choirs on a choir stand in church
Post by: VERGER on November 30, 2011, 01:14:28 PM
Hey Family, I have a question you ask you all..... I sat in on a choir rehearsal last night at a church and it was complete Chaos... I mean really it was..... The Choir President selected the songs, and she also asked the the altos to start singing so the musicans could get the key, and I could go on and on and on.  I didnt stop them or anything because it wasnt my church and I was only there to obsereve.  One thing I noticed was that they do sing in the choir stand and it looks like they arent together at all (everyone is spread out).  I want to ask any of you who use a choir stand how do you arrange your choirs.  Sopranos front row, altos second row and tenors third?  My chors usually sing on the floor where there is room to have tenors in the middle and sopranos and altos on either side.  What works for you all?

One of the choirs I direct regularly uses a choir stand.  We still do block formation (altos are to my right, tenors front center, baritones rear center, sopranos to my left).

We line up in the hallway before we walk out (the back row altos are first in line, then the back row baritones, then the back row sopranos, then the front row altos, etc.)

We have sopranos on the right, altos on the left, and tenors on the back row. As for the gaps between the people...people have their "certain" seat they want to sit in (in my choir). No one wants to fill in, but I feel our MOM needs to address this and FIX it! Stronger singers need to be closer to the mics and people need to placed in the right sections. IF they are unhappy about not having their seat, they can go kick rocks! I'm starting to get real tired of catering to these people LOL. There is a NEW choir president in town and i'm going to lay down the business! LOL *vent over*
